Title: James Valentine dies aged 64 Post by greggerypeccary on Apr 23rd, 2026 at 10:49am Very sad news :'( James Valentine, ABC talkback radio star, dies aged 64 after cancer diagnosis Former longtime 702 ABC Sydney radio announcer James Valentine has died. Valentine retired from the station in February this year following cancer treatment, after attempting to return to the airwaves last year. The presenter and professional saxophone player is being remembered for his ability to explore the humour and oddities of daily life on the airwaves. |

Title: Re: James Valentine dies aged 64 Post by greggerypeccary on Apr 23rd, 2026 at 7:39pm I saw James play with the Models once in a pub in Perth. Maybe the Floreat, or Raffles :-/ And when I could, I'd listen to or watch him on the ABC. Great musician and great broadcaster. So sad the way he went. |

I remember "the afternoon show" in the 1980s early 1990s. I recall when Valentine was reading one of the viewer letters that said one of the shows "sucks". I was young enough to think that the word should have been censored.
Lost notice of him after I stopped watching the ABC. Did not know he was ill recently. |
