Title: The Unscience of the King Post by lee on Apr 10th, 2026 at 1:43pm
"In short:
King Charles has written an open letter to Northern Territory residents in response to a series of natural disasters this wet season that have caused widespread damage and left hundreds displaced. The king says the flooding is an example of extreme weather events "becoming both more frequent and more ferocious in their impact" due to the "harsh reality of climate change". What's next? Royal commentator Juliet Rieden says the letter is a sign Charles is "sharpening his language a little bit" on the issue of climate change." https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04-09/king-charles-open-letter-nt-flooding-climate-change-warning/106546988 The letter - |

So which is it 2026 is the worst year for floods? 2026 is the worst year for cyclones? 2026 is the worst year for fires? He can remember visiting after Cyclone Tracy and its devastation and thinks that this year was somehow worse? How many died in the Cyclone Narelle? Answer - 0 |

So what is relevant? The floods biggest since 1998? Nope. Fires - Bigger than the 45m Ha in 1968-69 Nope. Cyclones - Narelle was a category2 when it got to the Top End and then weakened significantly. So nope. So just what metric was he relying on for the proclamation? What science? |

Be specific. What did the King of Australia say that was wrong? And back up your claim/s with peer reviewed scientific evidence. Cheers. |

Where exactly has he identified climate change in the NT? It is at the start of the second paragraph. Where are these extreme weather events occurring - outside climate attribution models? What are these increasing catastrophic effects of climate change? greggerypeccary wrote on Apr 10th, 2026 at 6:29pm:
Observations are peer-reviewed scientific evidence. "The Daly River community, also known as Nauiyu, recorded a flood height of 15.62 metres, overtaking the 1957 peak of 15.19 metres and ranking as the second-worst flood in the town’s history." https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/other/daly-river-flood-hits-second-worst-level/gm-GM2A40E89F Katherine floods worst since 1957 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-08/nt-flood-peaks-in-katherine-daly-river-reaches-major-flooding/106428398 "By 21 March, the cyclone resumed strengthening and attained a secondary peak as a Category 3 cyclone on the Australian scale, or a high-end Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Later that evening, the storm made landfall in East Arnhem with winds of with the same winds and a pressure of around 973 hPa (mbar). Following its second landfall, Narelle weakened to a tropical low as it trekked across the northern periphery of Northern Territory during 22 March. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Narelle_(2026) Cyclones always weaken rapidly after landfall. Major bushfires NT - 45m Ha. 1969-70 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_major_bushfires_in_Australia There is no current info on bushfires, but 8m Ha in October. Now all you have to do is debunk that. |
