J B Pritzker just called for the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. He's right. The Illinois governor went on NBC Chicago this yesterday and said what half the country had been thinking.
"There is something genuinely wrong with this man, and the 25th Amendment should be invoked."
Look at what prompted this. In the last 48 hours alone, Trump declared next Tuesday "Power Plant Day" in Iran, openly announcing his intention to destroy civilian infrastructure.
He posted "Open the buggerin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell" on Easter morning. He signed off with "Praise be to Allah" as a taunt while American service members are under fire in the Middle East.
He skipped Easter services to wander around DC and play golf.
He compared himself to Moses.
This is not a policy disagreement. This is not partisan overreach. This is a governor looking at the same evidence the entire world is looking at and arriving at the only reasonable conclusion: something is wrong with this man.
The 25th Amendment exists for exactly this moment. It was written for a president who is unable to discharge the duties of the office. Not unwilling. Unable. And what we are watching is a president who is escalating an illegal war with profane threats, alienating every ally we have, cratering the economy, and treating the most powerful office on earth like a social media account with nuclear launch codes.
Pritzker is the first governor to say it this directly. He should not be the last.
Every governor, every senator, every member of Congress who watches this man threaten war crimes on Easter morning and says nothing is complicit in whatever comes next.
The 25th Amendment is not theoretical. It's there for this. Use it.

Lawmakers have repeatedly floated the method for removing a president, as laid out in the Constitution, in recent years. And Donald Trump’s Cabinet apparently discussed the option more earnestly than many initially realized after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

To successfully remove Trump, a majority of his Cabinet and his vice president would have to be supportive. And there are no indications any Cabinet officials are considering it right now, or that Vice President JD Vance would be on board. But Trump’s comment Tuesday morning that a “whole civilization will die tonight” unless Iran makes a deal has spurred increasing calls — among a somewhat odd amalgamation of voices — to invoke the amendment.

Democratic lawmakers and right-wing voices are expressing concerns about just how far Trump is about to take things in the Iran war, as an 8 p.m. EST deadline for Tehran to cut a deal approaches. The president’s threats to strike power plants and other civilian infrastructure have been decried as war crimes, and some even say they fear his latest comments are alluding to the use of nuclear weapons (which the White House has denied considering).

The Trump administration is facing another round of urgent demands to remove the president from office after he declared that a “whole civilization will die” in his latest open threats against Iran.

Former MAGA allies Alex Jones and Marjorie Taylor Greene are now embracing calls to invoke the 25th Amendment, which allows for the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to declare the president unfit for office. Congress can also determine by a two-thirds vote whether to permanently remove him.

“How do we 25th Amendment his ass?” Jones asked on his InfoWars broadcast Monday.

In an ultimatum to Tehran, Trump has demanded a ceasefire agreement or the U.S. will escalate its war by destroying all power plants and bridges in a country of more than 90 million people. “The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” Trump said Monday.

On Tuesday morning, he wrote: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
