Title: No wonder the greens have stfu! Post by Daves2017 on Apr 4th, 2026 at 8:39pm
“Taxpayer-funded renovations for the Australian Greens' party room at Parliament House have cost $2.2 million, significantly exceeding the original $886,521 estimate, sparking criticism over spending. The project involved creating 11 suites, including specialized joinery ($153,000+) and custom carpet ($48,000+), in the Senate's southwestern wing.
+4 Key Details of the Renovation: Total Cost Explosion: Originally projected at $886,521, the cost rose to $1.6 million, and finally reported at $2.2 million as of February 2026. Itemized Costs: Notable expenses included over $153,000 for joinery, over $106,000 for partitions and ceilings, and $48,750 for custom-manufactured carpet. Project Scope: The work, which began during the previous Morrison government and continued under the Albanese government, involved renovating a party room and offices for the 11-member team. Justification: Senate President Sue Lines attributed cost blowouts to extensive ceiling works and required work outside of normal hours. Criticism: Liberal Senator James Paterson criticized the expenditure, particularly during a cost-of-living crisis.” “ abc Truly, in a cost of living crisis before it began to be a cost of living disaster this is how our elected representatives spent our taxpayer dollars? We don’t need to drain the Canberra swamp. Napalm would not only be a cheaper solution but far more effective. Who signed off on this? What is there name and why are they still employed? |

"The renovations are located within Parliament House, requiring compliance with strict standards, which officials stated contributed to the expense. "

In use for a mere 38 years and the ceilings need replacing, the house I live in is a 92 years old War Service house and still has its original ceilings, tongue and groove pine boards and it looks good for another 92 years.
What were the Watermelon team doing? |

And they didn't account for the extra expense? You calculate expenses on the detailed costings, and that includes working after hours. If a building is heritage listed then those additional costs need to be factored in. It seems they have Joe Numbnuts, from Widgiemooltha, as their certified planner. ::) |

I wonder if all the materials are sourced from renewable and morally superior sources.
