He didn't tell us anything we didn't already know and his reduction of the fuel excise, while welcome, does absolutely nothing whatsoever to address the fuel supply problems. All we heard from him was political waffle, a bunch of word salad with no plan on how to address this problem. It's ridiculous that we, as an island nation, are virtually entirely dependent upon other countries for our fuel needs. We have an abundance of natural resources and we should not need to rely on other countries. Albo needs to pull his head out of his arse and start coming up with an actual plan that helps Aussies deal with this fuel crisis.

We need to be extracting our own oil, building refineries to process it and make our own fuel - petrol, diesel and aviation fuel. It's not like we don't have the minerals for it or the ability to do it. Then we need to make it available to Australians first, with exports taxed appropriately. We need to do the same for gas, instead of letting foreign companies take our gas and then sell it back to us at inflated prices while they pay little tax. We also need to start building new coal-fired power stations and create a nuclear energy system consisting of about half a dozen nuclear power plants. Australia is a resource rich (abundant, actually) nation and we should not be needing to tell people to limit use of air conditioners in summer to prevent blackouts. As an island nation, we should not be reliant on our energy needs being imported by ship, as we've seen how dangerous the status quo is over the past month.

Upwards of 95 per cent of our fuel was processed here. We were independent. Powerful. And insulated from global conflict.

If this war had happened then, we wouldn’t even blink.
Government obsession over climate change policy is largely to blame for the situation Australia finds itself in, and both sides of government have utterly filthy hands.
