Title: Thanks for the $2.55 Billion Hit To Budget
Post by Ai_Took_Our_Jobs on Mar 30th, 2026 at 2:19pm
Got my jerry cans at the ready, cash in hand, so to get some fuel before the country's reserves dry up.

Cheaper price =  faster consumed.

Who gets the thanks for this short sightedness ?

Labor, or the Coalition ?

It will be more than $2.5 billion.

Farmers who don't sow their crops won't make any money
so they won't pay any tax - no exports of food either -
more loss of money -
the same for many other businesses.
This fuel crisis could cost us $50 billion -
if it goes on for 1 year it will cost us $100 billion or more.

Are we headed for a depression?

Probably.

First a recession, then WWIII, then a depression.

All thanks to one "man".

We have been in and out of a per capita recession since 2008. That's why so many have gone backwards. All hidden by massive immigration.

2008–2019: Australia experienced multiple per capita recessions, including a notable period from Q2 2018 to Q1 2019, despite total GDP growth remaining positive.
2023–2024: The economy entered its longest recorded per capita recession (six consecutive quarters of decline in 2024 alone), driven by population growth exceeding economic growth.
March 2025 Update: Recent data suggests Australia slid back into a per capita recession in the March 2025 quarter after the brief recovery in late 2024, indicating a volatile and ongoing struggle with living standards relative to population size.

It's terrible when the enemy holds the moral high ground.

Iran attacks infrastructure, while Israel/US target civilians ...   another western war crime.

Tell that to the relatives of the 40,000 executed by the Regime while those schoolgirls chanted "Death to Jews and America" human shielding that military facility.

Blowtorch the Regime of Terrorism and it's Lefty supporters I say.

Israel loves killing children and pregnant women.

And now the US is following their lead, while Jasin masturbates on the sidelines.

I can tell that no-one invited you and Peckerhead to help fight the school bullies.
You both hid under your school desks with empty pockets paying off the bullies with your lunch money.
Even after all these years, you still haven't changed.

Little keyboard warriors. ;D

The Nationals’ Alison Penfold made the blindingly obvious point in parliament: “If these fuels are important enough to stockpile, they are important enough to produce.” Her Nationals’ colleague, Anne Webster, quoted Geoscience Australia estimates we could have 17 billion barrels of oil we haven’t developed. Our shale oil alone could supply us for 43 years.

Australia is uniquely vulnerable and uniquely culpable for its vulnerability. We are at the end of the world’s longest supply chains. We face many potential choke points beyond the Strait of Hormuz or the Red Sea.

Yet despite our vulnerability, we have among the smallest fuel reserves of any OECD nation. The Albanese government has been in office for four years and has no right to blame this on the admittedly woeful performance of the Coalition government before it. And we have no merchant fleet to move energy. And no defence force to protect it.

Our economic problems are supply problems. We’re perhaps the only nation in the world that could be energy self-sufficient but has chosen not to be.
Greg Sheridan

Thanks to the total Gretafication of the Australian mind.

The 26-cent saving at the bowser will be wiped out within weeks

Savings from a 26-cent-a-litre cut to fuel excise tax could be wiped out within weeks as the global oil price is expected to continue its climb, increasing motorists’ bills for diesel and petrol into the foreseeable future, regardless of when the Iran war ends.

Petrol is at record highs, reaching an average $2.58 a litre on Tuesday in Sydney and Melbourne while crude oil remains around $US107 a barrel. The Albanese government announced on Monday it would halve the 52 cents per litre tax on fuel for three months, starting April 1.

But AMP chief economist Shane Oliver said it was now likely the price of Brent crude, a global benchmark, would hit US$150 a barrel, even if the war was to end now and regular trading for the Middle East resumed immediately.

“The longer this drags on, the more oil prices globally will start to reflect the full impact of the supply hit, which means you could end up towards $US150 a barrel,” Oliver said.

The price hike would be driven by the cost of repairing damaged infrastructure and the weeks it would take to bring production back to capacity.

From our partners
Oliver said that if the oil price hit $US150 a barrel in coming weeks, unleaded petrol would sell for around $2.80 in Australia. However, he said prices could rise even higher if the conflict drags on.

A rule of thumb for fuel prices is that for every $10 increase in the price of oil, petrol prices rise 10 cents at the bowser.
