PM apologises for 'any misinterpretation' after labelling Grace Tame 'difficult'

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologised for any misinterpretation about labelling Grace Tame "difficult" at an event in Melbourne yesterday.

The prime minister was asked to respond with one word to a series of rapid first questions at the event about several people including Tame.

Speaking at a doorstop in Melbourne, Albanese says he was referring to Tame's "difficult life".

"I was at a forum. I was asked to describe people in one word and Grace Tame you certainly can't describe in one word. She has had a difficult life, and that was what I was referring to," Albanese says.

"If there was any misinterpretation, then I certainly apologise. I think that Grace Tame has taken what is personal trauma and that awful experience that she had and channelled that into helping, in particular, other young women."

But Albanese said he disagreed with Tame's comments made at a pro-Palestinian protest in Sydney during Israeli President Isaac Herzog's visit.

Yes, it must be difficult being so stupid.

Perhaps she will convert to Islam.

Grace Tame has rubbished the Prime Minister’s claims that he was talking about her challenging life when he labelled the former Australian of the Year ‘difficult’.


Former Australian of the Year Grace Tame has criticised Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's qualified apology after he labelled her difficult, saying "What a patronising cop out from a total coward."

"Straight from the Scott playbook," she commented on Instagram, comparing Mr Albanese to former prime minister Scott Morrison.
