BREAKING NEWS:
Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal By John Fritze 20 February 2026 CNN https://youtu.be/B4PmR-bPMFk The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that President Donald Trump violated federal law when he unilaterally imposed sweeping tariffs across the globe, a striking loss for the White House on an issue that has been central to the president’s foreign policy and economic agenda. The decision is arguably the most important loss the second Trump administration has sustained at the conservative Supreme Court, which last year repeatedly sided with the president in a series of emergency rulings on immigration, the firing of the leaders of independent agencies and deep cuts to government spending. The ruling was 6 for the majority a 3 for the dissent. MAJORITY: Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. Justice Sonia Sotomayor Justice Elena Kagan Justice Neil M. Gorsuch Justice Amy Coney Barrett Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson DISSENT: Justice Clarence Thomas Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. FULL STORY: https://edition.cnn.com/2026/02/20/politics/supreme-court-tariffs |

A nuanced ruling, but he lost.
What country will he bomb to take his rage out on? Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh dissent, of course. And now what? The global economy is already regrouping without the USA. Can America build all those connections back up again, and Trump isn't interested in that—he's only interested in lining his own pockets through theft of taxpayer money and blackmail of corporations and other nations. I'm glad the SC ruled this way, but little will change. |

Trump understands the system better then the legal intellectuals.
It's the benefit he had from years of grinding it out on the tough streets of Manhattan whilst the lawyers sipped thier lattes. What are the supreme Court going to do? Call in an airstrike on Mar El lago? ;D Call up the military?. The big fella can do what he likes. He will be dead soon, so let him enjoy the encore to a very interesting life, something the leftie intellectual never experienced. Now, back to your crusty keyboards lefties and recognize your inferior status |

There is no suggestion that Mr A Quascoot is a criminal or has anything to do with organised crime. Any such accusations will be dealt with by AFP, ICE or US Marine Corps. |

Yes, every cloud has a silver lining :) The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs on Friday, a significant decision that could redirect the course of the administration’s economic and foreign policy agenda. The 6-3 decision, which included both conservative and liberal justices in the majority, had the potential to reset the relationship between a White House that has repeatedly pushed legal boundaries and a Supreme Court that has in case after case blessed those efforts since Trump returned to power. |

Trump announces devastating new global tariff as he hits out at ‘deeply disappointing’ Supreme Court ruling
President Donald Trump has this morning imposed a devastating 10 per cent tariff on all imports into the United States after the US Supreme Court struck down his signature economic policy. The conservative-majority top court ruled six-three that a 1977 law known as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act(IEEPA) Mr Trump has relied on “does not authorize the president to impose tariffs.” Mr Trump said he would use a separate authority to impose a uniform tariff of 10 percent -- after he spent the past year imposing various rates spontaneously to cajole and punish other countrie. The ruling did not impact sector-specific duties Mr Trump separately imposed on imports of steel, aluminum and various other goods. Several government probes which could lead to more sectoral tariffs remain in the works. |

'Two tiny, remote Antarctic outposts populated by penguins and seals are among the obscure places targeted by the Trump administration's new tariffs.
Heard and McDonald Islands - a territory which sits 4,000km (2,485 miles) south-west of Australia - are only accessible via a seven-day boat trip from Perth, and haven't been visited by humans in almost a decade. Australian trade minister Don Farrell told the ABC that the tariffs were "clearly a mistake". "Poor old penguins, I don't know what they did to Trump, but, look, I think it's an indication, to be honest with you, that this was a rushed process.' Penguin prices are now well above US disposable income. |

"The actual numbers that we would have to pay back if, for any reason, the Supreme Court were to rule against the United States of America on Tariffs, would be Hundreds of Billions of Dollars," said Trump in his post. Adding, "We are talking about Trillions of Dollars! It would be a complete mess, and almost impossible for our Country to pay."
A trillion is hundreds of billions at 1,000%. It's great big enormous. Xi and Canada can pay it. The tariffs will be great again. An impossible mess and there will be $2000 for each MAGA or not. |

Good to know, Deidre. President Trump announced Saturday he is imposing a new 15 per cent global tariff on all imports entering the US, effective immediately. The new tariff will replace the 10 per cent global tariff that Trump announced Friday shortly after the Supreme Court ruled that much of his existing tariff regime was illegal. To impose the new tariff, he is turning to a legal tool called Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. Broadly speaking, the provision, which has never before been used for tariffs, allows a president to impose tariffs of up to 15 per cent for as long as 150 days to address problems caused by persistent trade deficits. Trade experts say the administration might succeed in raising revenue with Section 122 for a short while because of the time limit. For the moment, the law buys Trump’s team time to strategize on more individualised tariffs using other legal means. In a speech Friday, Trump vowed to reinstate levies at “potentially higher” levels. |

We can imagine the problems for US industry in wildly swinging tariff levels. Plans for US expanded-production plant are also as floppy as Trump's whims which expire in under 3 years. Trump is a trade deficit.
