My opinion -

I agree with Albo.
I would also say that these women were traitors to Australia -
they left to marry Islamic State fighters that are in a banned terrorist organisation.

to gain some popularity out of this?

It reminds me a bit of the voice. It took a long time, but common sense finally kicked in. Sort of. He certainly is not a leader on the issue, by any measure.

He might not be directly repatriating these women and kids but he's not standing in their way either, and once back here as he very well knows they will end up shortly after this minor hiccup, the govt will take over providing free housing, medical and welfare for the rest of their radical little lives.

Unlike normal Australian women on welfare who, once their youngest child turns 14, will be expected to go back to work and provide for their own families, these women have it made and will bludge on the Australian taxpayers forever.   >:(
