Title: Taiwan strategy v US Post by tallowood on Feb 11th, 2026 at 12:46pm
Taiwan says proposal to move 40% of its chipmaking capacity to US is ‘impossible’.
Taiwan’s move to defend its “silicon shield” is the latest sign of the island’s tech dominance being used as a bargaining chip in trade negotiations, as it faces increased geopolitical pressure to shift semiconductor manufacturing capacity overseas. I think Taiwan worries that once it's bargaining chip gone to US Americans would lose interest in defending Taiwan. Note: While TSMC was reportedly set to start 3-nanometre production at its “mega fab” in Arizona – projected to cost US$165 billion – by 2027, the company had started mass production of 2nm chips in Taiwan’s southern city of Kaohsiung last year. On Tuesday, the Taiwanese foundry giant reported a 37 per cent year-on-year revenue surge in January to NT$401.3 billion (US$12.7 billion), marking its highest monthly revenue ever, as it continued to benefit from huge demand for AI chips. https://www.scmp.com/tech/tech-war/article/3343070/taiwan-says-proposal-move-40-its-chipmaking-capacity-us-impossible |

They are getting stuck between a rock and a hard place. They have China insisting that Taiwan acknowledge that it really belongs to China - and give up its democracy and human rights. And they have the US asking for something in return for holding the Chinese at bay.
They can probably count on an about-face from the US after the next presidential election. They can string them along until then. |

FFS! Who cares about an island of China regardless of political difference. None of our business. It's up to other Asian nations to deal with. Just another Spaghetti Western USA Leftism desire for another Korean & Vietnam war mongering.
FFS! Do you really want Australian people dying on the shores of a lost cause in far Asia? Leave it to the UN and if they fail. Then that's how it goes. |

China knows that Australia turns yellow men into dumb Beta male labourers.
Australia is for the Alpha yellow female. China doesn't like Australia. Full of Aborigine funnel web spiders. |
