Title: Re: Melbourne - dog attack - 4 people in hospital Post by Bobby. on Jan 31st, 2026 at 1:54pm It's unlikely to be a Golden Labrador or Retriever although they can bite very hard too. I saw a large male Labrador beat up an Alsatian dog once but never a person. |

I thought that too. But get this…. A pet dog has attacked four people at a home in Melton West Now that says singular does it not yet…2 dogs have been euthanised. That second dog did nothing? Yet by association…euthanised. The dog was seized by a council ranger, along with a second dog at the same address. |

Interesting chart about dog attacks and which breeds -
American Staffordshire Terrier - right at the top of the list. Staffies at the top with 200 attacks, and Labradors at 18th with 12 attacks. https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/NSW-Dog-Attack-Incidents-%E2%80%93-1-April-2025-to-30-June-2025.pdf Quarterly NSW Report Dog attack incidents reported by all councils from 1 April 2025 to 30 June 2025 |

Case of mistaken identity - the owners should have been euthanised. |

Yes - you can often blame owners for aggressive dogs. |

That’s probably why the second dog owned by the owner, was euthanised…not because the 2nd dog did anything, but because of who the dog’s owner was! Untrustworthy to keep control of dogs that can attack if let loose. |

If they are, we can be thankful that the people injured were the owner/owners? And not some poor innocent people - especially children - out on the streets as often happens. Pitbulls - and anything with the bull terrier in it - should be banned. >:( |

Why the use of ‘euthanised’ what’s wrong with the more prosaic ‘killed’?

It's a euphemism. euphemism noun a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing. |

For precision, killed could mean run over by a car but euthanized means life taken by a person in a humane way. |

Exactly what I thought at the time. One look at the 'owner' and they'd make a hard decision. It's sad, but some people should not have dogs - the kind of people who train them to be savage by using brutality on them. If one dog went the rat because of an argument in the 'home' that says volumes. Clearly that dog was confused and figured he was protecting everyone by attacking them all. Crazy household. |

If you own a dog you have to dominate it - I've seen a lady friend of mine get bailed up by her own German Shepherd in the kitchen - her female dog thought she was the boss of the house. It never attacked me because I dominated it and told that dog off a few times. |
