Laughable - they never even knew the gold was there so now they want a grab at the cash. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
So - how does native title give them the right to demand 'royalties' for doing nothing? No wonder that guy's smiling. Their loss of ownership was a clear example of colonisation reversed.... and now it's become an argument between two warring groups..... It's laughable in the modern day, when both groups most likely wandered over the same desert patch - so what? Just because an ancestor might have walked there doesn't mean you own it or they owned it. Their relationship with the land precluded ownership until they disputed ownership - the thinking is very loose. If I could claim native title and negotiate royalties over every patch of land my ancestors walked over etc - I'd be richer than Croesus. This is utter nonsense. |

Yes absolute nonsense. They were never owners they simply roamed a area. Pre-colonisation as stone age Hunter Gatherers they were like todays homeless - seeking out food & shelter where ever it was.
So far across Australia where ever mining company royalties have to be paid to Aboriginal land Groups I've yet to see any major improvements to their living conditions or way of life. They still rely heavily on Govt handouts & welfare for food & groceries, free health, education & housing. Many of the communities are still strife torn with alcoholism & drugs, domestic violence & sexual abuse of children.... & sometimes by other children. Then there's the rubbish and vandalism of their homes. |
