Aldi fails to deliver on cage eggs promise   :(

Angelina Popovski is an animal welfare crusader who convinced a supermarket giant to commit to pulling cage eggs from its shelves.

In Australia, five million hens are confined in these battery cages – smaller than the size of an A4 piece of paper – every year. The male chicks don’t even live past their first day as they have no use in the industry. They can’t produce eggs and they don’t grow fast enough to produce meat.

Popovski was 14 years old in 2015, when she started a petition calling for Aldi to transition to entirely cage-free eggs. It ruffled a few feathers, reaching close to 100,000 signatures in two months.

In response, Aldi said it would phase out cage eggs by the end of 2025. But a decade on, it seems the supermarket isn’t keeping its promise.

An Aldi spokesperson told Ten it is “working closely with our business partners to complete the transition to 100 per cent cage-free shell eggs by 2030″.
