Fair point - so - with all the mighty flooding up that way - why is there no water going into the aquifer?  Or is this another fantasy story for gain?

So at what point has there been less rainfall and flooding etc to fill these aquifers?  This is a bullshit flexing of the 'traditional owner' muscles over some idea of 'control over land, water and resources'....

So - where is the solid and reliable evidence?

Let's bore a little deeper:-

"For over 150 years, uncontrolled bore drilling led to significant water loss, with estimates suggesting the basin loses a massive amount of water each year through uncontrolled free-flowing bores and bore drains. This caused water pressure to drop and led to a large number of bores becoming unusable."

So lemme get this right - this is a self-regulating system - when it reaches a point where the underground water has been lowered too far - the water stops flowing to the top until it is restored by natural rainfall.  The problems are from allowing free running flow from bores - which quite naturally leads to evaporation.

" Recent assessments show that groundwater pressure is improving, and the number of natural springs is increasing due to efforts to cap and pipe bores, which significantly reduces water loss."....

So it's coming back from a short term deficit - and there is no problem other than a little hysteria, including throwing in a little 'climate change' catastrophism and fantasy. There is no reliable science... it's all highly convenient guesswork.

Boys... BOYS!!!  This conversation seems to have.... dried up.... I didn't want to be a wet blanket or bore you ...

Fair point - but 40,000 years ago Aboriginal geologists mapped the Aquifer and they understand it far better than any Wharte Man scientist... that arcane knowledge is passed down through the generations and is sacred song line knowledge, you understand.

Reading through the blurb stuff I put down there it all sounds like convenient hokum to me.  Water rushes up due to pressure... clearly it can only rush up until it de-pressurises and is at ground level..... then when Big Wet flooding comes, fills up again... the only way it could be diminished below just under ground level would be if it was pumped and pumped during the Dry ...  all it means really is that instead of the saline springs, any wanderer has to do a Lawrence of Arabia and throw down a bucket... but hey - they don't do that wandering thing any more... they's all settled in 'communities' and want it all out of the Wharte Man's pocket from dat Cargo Cult.

This is a demand for 'control over water, land and resources' (and thus control over the entire nation) ... straight out of the failed Voice playbook.

These hydropolitics eventually will become potential trigger for civil unrest if not hydrowars.

Well - that is exciting - so now they own the underground water.  If the dopey courts give in to this one - one step closer to Civil War again.  Stupid is as stupid does.

The Murray Bean Field War?

'Joe stood on the banks of the flowing Murray, fresh and bloated from the recent rains and snow melt.. the pure water flowing past his parched land..... his father and grandfather and his father had dragged that land out of the native scrub and turned it into  a thriving family owned business.... now it was all left to die ... his grapes rotting and drying on the vines.. the vines slowly dying....  his vegetable acres to feed the hungry cities all gone to scrubby grass for want of water.... while downriver the Sembadian cashew nut and rice farm poured billions of gallons into the ground, raising the salt table and letting a huge percentage of it just run off ... slowly choking everything... and not a single nut went to Australia... along with no taxes due to cunning accounting and Offshore barons running the show like spiders sensing a web while never exposing themselves to any real effort at all...

Joe was past it all...... not least past those damned politicians down from Canberra preaching a New Golden Age of Water Management Wong-style.... claiming that the water that fell from the sky or flowed from the snow melt was a State property... didn't belong to the people at all as it had always done, rain, flood or drought ..... and he could always compete with offshore vultures with bottomless pockets for a 'licence' to draw water from the overflowing Murray his family had relied on for generations .... but of course, living on annual bank loans against his crops - Joe didn't have that kind of cash to splash around.... nor did any of his neighbours.... and now he had no crops.....

He kicked the dust of his farm with his battered old work boots - can't even afford new ones..... he kicked again... and sat down on the rear deck of his battered old ute to think a while... his farm dog Jess watching him with curious eyes... wondering what The Boss was thinking..

Joe thought a while... then thought a while again...... the sun began its slow climb down the ladder of the sky towards sunset... no Sundowners any more though... he thought fleetingly... and he thought back to all his forebears who had fought the country and fought for it.. some dying..... and the women often left at home with next to nothing to get by on while the self-same politicians who were tearing the country apart sat in luxury and told everyone else what they could and couldn't do....

He jumped off the back of the ute, startling Jess who was dozing lightly in the warm afternoon sun of Spring... and pausing for just one second to think it all through again - he headed for his pump down on the river.. his pump long unused and starting to show it.....

"Come on, Jess,"  he said.... "let's go and turn our smacking water back on... bugger 'em!"

Jess followed at a fast trot with a huge smile on her face.... The Boss was looking happy again.. and so began the Murray Water War .....

Precisely - so the water drops down below surface level - it's still there - but you need a White Man's or even an Arab's bucket to get it up...  wait a minute - to draw some water up..... I saw that movie on SBS last night ab out the Afghan cameleer in the Outback.

You know what's funny?  In South Yemen, back in the 1970's 22 SAS were dedicated to digging wells for the poor farmers and herdsmen, who suffered under a Dark Ages type kingship and had next to nothing... didn't stop the 'Communists' (Arab style) or FLOSY, from attacking the 'colonisers' which is why they got their arses caned at Mirbat.  Not much has changed in Yemen.........

Funny how now 'out there' in the borderlands, our Yemenis are trying to stop whartey using that water in the ground... history repeats itself.... the sacred aquifer that Whartey's geologists pointed out to them is sacred now... all they really knew about it was that some water popped up in places... bit saline, but hell..

They don't learn fast these Sand People......
