Title: Nissen Hut Camps - for the UK ? Post by Yadda on Oct 30th, 2025 at 10:21pm Nissen Hut Camps - for the UK ? ......and for Australia ? These huts were cheap to build, and they were good enough to house allied servicemen [and others] during WWI and WWII. If English servicemen [1916-1918 and 1939-1945] could live reasonably comfortably, in these quick to construct 'homes', why, in 2025, can't the UK's illegal immigrants, be compelled and required, to live in this type of accommodation ? America Copied Britain’s Nissen Hut But Missed the One Thing That Made It Great 09 min Oct 22, 2025 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssRO9eR87PM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssRO9eR87PM Quote:
. n.b. These huts were good enough to house allied servicemen during WWI and WWII. IMO, >> to house illegal immigrants << in the UK, 2025.....these huts should be erected within guarded, fenced camps [erected perhaps, by the illegal immigrants themselves, under supervision?]. I want to see 10,000 peaceful ISLAMISTS [illegal immigrants] living peacefully within a guarded Nissan camp. [i.e. LET THOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO THE UK, PROVE THAT THEY CAN LIVE PEACEFULLY >> AND PRODUCTIVELY << WITHIN THOSE CAMPS.] What could possibly go wrong ? FURTHER...... After vetting......give trusted residents work identity cards...to work outside within the broader community. If they honour that trust, then allow them to seek their own, approved accommodation, out, in the broader community.. But if they betray the trust placed in them, then deport those illegal immigrants [or confine them permanently to their original, guarded, Nissan camp]. DEFINITION; illegal immigrant......a person who has been apprehended, who has entered a country without pre-approved authorisation. |

Straw Bale homes are cheaper and insulation superior to all other types of homes, even with the latest gimmick technologies.

They are also not insulated. Poor modern man would succumb. |

But they need to be rendered; preferably with mud or cement, inside and out, stops them catching fire, being host to crawlies and bities and deters sheep cows and goats from literally eating one out of house and home. |

Pure myth. I've helped build a few both as paying volunteer (Carrs Park garden complex, Kogarah) and got paid for some homes.
You can do the cheap ruddy hippy versions of million$ mansion types. They are extremely fire proof, so much so they should be almost a cultural mandatory home in bush areas. The bales are so tightly compressed, it would take hours for fire to burn right through a bale. The Render is just cosmetic and practical icing on the cake. They are extremely upstanding in earthquakes, as tested on the Uni quake platforms. Mice and critters can't get into them: again, too compressed. Even a hippy version has a far higher insulating and sound proof rating of 26R compared to a double - brick veneer mansion of 12R. So you need turn the air-con on for just 1 hour to retain for 8 hours. Amazing. They are also cyclone proof, except for the roof. Lol. They are now endorsed by engineers and unis. So no council can prevent anyone building one based on their superior safety aspects. The only flaw? You need to build them on a raised mound or slab, so no water can collect and seep into the walls from the bottom up. The original opposition to them were Councils and Builders. They didn't like cheaper and superior homes undermining their great Australian rip off scheme. Hence how a lot of anti myths evolved in opposition. If a goat or horse starts biting into a wall? That's because incorrect 'seeding/grain' straw was used. No-one is that stupid, because no-one provides such bales. People can build one, once certified, for $100,000 these days. A large building hall in Fairfield was built with jumbo bales. All 4 high walls were finished in a day. How long, how much does a brick version take and cost? Define, not a day. I was even given a look at a straw bale stock in the Riverina. Provided by the then Chairman of Irrigation, out there. |

Friends built a straw bale home - the biggest cost was the rendering which required a special machine to shoot the concrete - great on insulation though - they got a rescue dog - a Whippet - and I accidentally trod on his leg once and he never spoke to me again. |

I rendered by hand (trough). Pure straight wall and corners. Keeping at it till I get that sweet spot between dry and moist so no cracks follow. I was taught by a German Master Tradesman.
Sure beated doing arm reps at a gym. |

Yeah, need to be rendered, incl cement in outer layers outside and lime plaster inside to the bales can breath. They are fire and pest safe, being so highly compressed, but, yeah, rendering is needed in part to stop horse, cows and sheep eating the bales! Also need wide eaves etc to protect walls from rain. |
