Title: Donald Trump nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
Post by MattE on Oct 29th, 2025 at 6:00pm
The new Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Well deserved.

With all of these nominations, he should surely win it.

How is it well deserved?

A candidate must have done the "most or the best work" for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, or the holding and promotion of peace congresses.

The prize can be awarded to individuals or institutions for their work in areas like arms control, peace negotiation, democracy, human rights, and environmental protection.

I'm not sure you actually know how it works.

The amount of nominations plays no part whatsoever in the selection process.

It's not a popularity contest.

You do understand that, don't you?

How did Barack Obama win it then?

The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the award on October 9, 2009, citing Obama's promotion of nuclear nonproliferation and a "new climate" in international relations fostered by Obama, especially in reaching out to the Muslim world.

So for something made up.

You made this thread about Trump, but now you're focused on Obama.

"whataboutism
/ˌwɒtəˈbaʊtɪz(ə)m/
noun
the technique or practice of responding to an accusation or difficult question by making a counter-accusation or raising a different issue."

I accept your white flag.

Thankyou for playing.

Moreover: "Violence has flared again in Gaza overnight as Israeli airstrikes killed at least 50 people, including 22 children."

So much for peace.

The ceasefire is fragile, no doubt about it.

Most ceasefires are uneasy at the start in all conflicts with each side testing the limits.

But Donald Trump has achieved something which Biden had no capacity to do.

If Trump did win the prize it would be the best joke to ever win anything or maybe more the worst joke to ever win anything.

What?

What has he achieved that would make him eligible for the NPP?

"Israeli strikes in Gaza killed at least 104 people, including dozens of children, the enclave’s health authorities said on Wednesday, marking the deadliest day since the beginning of the ceasefire championed by US President Donald Trump."
