Hurricane Melissa: Conditions worsening in Jamaica with planet’s strongest storm hours from historic landfall Amanda Jackson Rhea Mogul By CNN meteorologists Briana Waxman, Chris Dolce, Mary Gilbert and CNN's Amanda Jackson, Hanna Park and Rhea Mogul Updated 7:27 AM EDT, Tue October 28, 2025 What we're covering • Strongest storm this year: Melissa underwent extreme rapid intensification, strengthening to a rare Category 5 with winds of 175 mph and stronger gusts, making it the strongest storm on the planet this year. • Conditions worsening: The storms outer bands are lashing Jamaica with tropical-storm force winds. Hurricane conditions will arrive later this morning before landfall by early afternoon. • Jamaica’s worst storm: The island nation hasn’t taken a direct hit from a hurricane in over a decade and never from a Category 5. “For Jamaica, it will be the storm of the century for sure,” WMO tropical cyclone specialist Anne-Claire Fontan said Tuesday at a news conference, Reuters reported. “It’s a catastrophic situation expected in Jamaica.” With storm surge up to 13 feet (4 meters) and rainfall up to 40 inches (100 cm), Fontan said “there will be catastrophic flash flooding and landslides.” The International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) has also warned that it expects up to 1.5 million people in Jamaica to be directly affected by the storm – more than half of the population. |

Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in south-western Jamaica as the strongest storm to ever hit the Caribbean nation in modern history The storm has weakened to a category four with wind speeds of 145mph (230km/h), after earlier lashing the coastline with winds of more than 185mph Up to 30 inches (76cm) of rain is expected in some parts of Jamaica, with areas already experiencing flash flooding The storm is expected to remain severe as it crosses Jamaica and makes its way towards Cuba A Jamaican man tells BBC News "the winds are so strong you would not be able to stand up", while a woman says "water is coming through my roof - I am not OK" |

Here's what's happening now • Moving on: Melissa is now centered off the northern coast of Jamaica after barreling ashore as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes in history. It is now a dangerous Category 4 hurricane as it heads toward Cuba. For additional coverage, watch CNN. • Impact: We’re already seeing reports of extensive damage to homes, hospitals and schools in southwestern Jamaica. Earlier, Prime Minister Andrew Holness told CNN the storm will cause “catastrophic damage.” • Already deadly: Melissa is responsible for seven deaths — three in Jamaica during storm preparations, three in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic. |

The Safir-Simmpson scale has only been in effect since 1971. Any attribution as "strongest" has to be examined against that.

Wed October 29, 2025 Hurricane Melissa kills at least 30 in the Caribbean as it heads toward the Bahamas. What we're covering • Cuba landfall: Cuba suffered “significant damage” after Melissa made landfall there this morning as a Category 3 hurricane. Around 140,000 people are cut off by rising river levels as the storm lashes the country and heads toward the Bahamas. • Severe damage: Melissa hit Jamaica yesterday as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, caused major damage to public infrastructure and left most of the island without power. The full extent of the devastation is unclear with some areas inaccessible. • Deadly storm: At least 20 people have died in Haiti, after a river flooded by Melissa burst its banks, the local mayor said. Four bodies were recovered in Jamaica’s badly hit St. Elizabeth Parish, and another three died on the island during storm preparations. One person died in the Dominican Republic. |

Seeing as a warmer world should have lower differences between high and low pressure systems, that would seem to fly in the face of physics.
SST temperatures affect the top micrometer of water, in hot weather the air above that has a cooled effect due to wind passing over the warmed water, it is why we have sea breezes. Much as the weather attribution group would like to say that their models show it to be Climate Change/AGW, the models have never been verified. Their attribution is bogus. GIGO. |

All that is needed is a wide opening at Panama and Red Sea/Mediterranean to allow a new flow through of the seas and oceans being reconnected almost equatorially and not just polar. Then, all will be at peace like no more wars.
