They can't count in Queensland. Tragic. Divers have been left at sea to die because Dive operators can't count beyond 5.

Maybe that’s it? Too much sun exposure up in Qld and thoughts of cold beer consumption asap?
Well they do have a Guinness book of records for biggest/longest pub crawl at some stage!

Realistically, did no one in group care for an elderly or interact either if she was okay? Don’t these cruise ships have the lanyard ID machine checks for all to be accounted for ffs!
I’m wondering if that elderly even had a mobile phone and if she did, was there any signal on that island?
This whole thing is bad, real bad and as there are more and more of us boomers retiring and wanting to travel….more due care is needed to account for everyone, young or elderly!

This cruise ship company needs to closed down for negligence. I wouldn’t trust them.

I recall a cruise we took to Alaska in 2016.
The ship was about 3/4 hour late to depart from a port we stopped at for day.
It just so happened we were sitting at a restaurant window port side as ship started to leave, seeing a taxi pull up fast and a couple get out of taxi hauling up the gangway watching the ship take off.
They missed boarding time.

I asked a staff member what happens to that couple.
I found out the ship knew 2 were not on board so waited at least half hour past the departure deadline time for them.

Fair enough.

I asked what happens next to them being stranded.
They contact them and arrange to meet at the next port but they pay for transport there.
The couple decided to not board back on ship and went their own way after.
The crew can go into their cabin to pack their belongings to post back to them (at the couples expense).

The cruise ship (Norwegian Jewel) did the right thing.

It astounded me this couple didn’t want to get back on board as there was much more to see at other port stops!
I absolutely loved that adventurous cruise discovery that last frontier (Alaska). Highly recommended.

We always abide by strict time schedules!

In any travels, and last year doing Europe by bus, our guide always noticed and made a compliment as we were always first ones to return at meeting point on time.
You would be surprised how many late comers there were.
I understand the desire to look around longer but not in tour groups. If anyone wants to do that ad lib stuff taking time to soak in the sights, it’s best to travel independently. No time restraints.

That was a fair call. They made an effort on their part.

Sadly for Queensland Tourism, it seems every five years it kills tourists by negligence and specifically due to an inability to count.
