It’s funny how the Irish presidential election results on Saturday night (AEDT) seemed to sum up Western politics at the moment.

How so? There was a colourless establishment technocrat on one side, and an absolute nutter on the other. And the nutter won in a landslide.

Like the Greens in Australia, she is careful to start every sentence with “of course I condemn Putin/Hamas/objectively evil person or group” before spending the next 10 hours telling you how bad the West is.






Ireland is a funny place. They fought the English - ethnically barely distinguishable from the Irish themselves -  for decades, centuries, only to surrender Ireland to Pakistanis, Africans and Asians in 20 years flat.

As a realist this makes sense to me in an increasingly mad world ...

Society has gone insane because reason has been abandoned — first by philosophers, then by social scientists, and now by politicians, corporate heads and (increasingly) by actual scientists.

Ayn Rand [1905-1982, author of “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountainhead”] had a beautiful, brilliant mind. She anticipated what ultimately came to pass a few decades ago when she wrote about the decline of reason in Western civilization.

I doubt that the thousands of Africans, Arabs, Asians flooding into Ireland will learn Gaelic.

Most of the Irish can't speak it and most of those who can never actually use it.

In Connemara , at least, Irish can be heard in everyday speech, among my own family [in Australia] we all speak Irish except when there are non speakers present.

The point is that Irish resented the English for 800 years even though they are indistinguishable from across the Channel - but then give Ireland away in 20 years flat to Africans, Arabs, Asians (none of them learning Gaelic, of course)  just like the English! Now it's like a competition- who can self-repudiate faster, the English or the Irish.
The Irish, always wanting to outdo the English, are now outdoing them in idiotic self-destruction. Daft ****ers.

Hush - by me grandmothers clan in County Fermanagh were the very last to not use Gaelic as first language... stubborn lot... bring it back I say.. yer miserable spalpeens..
