Anthony Albanese and US President Donald Trump have inked a freshly agreed critical minerals deal worth $8.5 billion.

The agreement was signed in the White House Cabinet Room just moments after the Prime Minister’s arrival on Monday morning local time.

So, does that mean we're going to see the major issues of homelessness, increasing cost of living, rents, house prices and mortgages, etc. in Australia solved in the not too distant future?

Or, does it just mean the rich (including "Mr. Selfie" himself) will continue to get richer while the average Aussie continues to struggle?

Where is the money to be spent? in US for processing plants I guess?

I worry that Albo will be so desperate to please Trump that he will be practically giving away our rare earth minerals for far less than what they are worth, and not getting the tariffs Trump has imposed removed. I don't see Albo as strong, because he has shown time and time again that he isn't.

Just like everything else Australia exports, not much will come back to the taxpayer.  The Hancocks, Forests and all the other Miners will grab most of the profits with a pittance flowing back.   Same as our Gas, Coal and other natural elements that we are overflowing with.

Now, if we had a decent Mining Resource Rental Tax in place….oh wait..

Indeed!   We use to produce almost everything here - jobs were plentiful, you could chose between multiple blue collar type jobs, wages and conditions were great - HELL! - we even made our own CARS here!!!    I wonder what happened to all those lucrative manufacturing mega-businesses our Super Funds could invest in, thereby keeping all the Aussie money in country?

This is why China has such a stranglehold on rare earth minerals globally - they have little or no environmental concerns when it comes to extracting these minerals, unlike Australia. We have a colossal amount of rare earth minerals in this country, but extracting them is highly controlled due to the extremely non-environmentally-friendly process required. Australia could be in the same place as China if we ignored environmental impacts, as the Chinese do. No, I'm not saying we should do that - I'm just pointing out the different approaches taken between the two countries.

During the highly-anticipated meeting, Mr Trump sang Mr Albanese’s praises, claiming he was doing a “fantastic job as the Prime Minister” and referred to him as a “friend” and Australia as an “amazing ally”.

“They’ve really got a great Prime Minister,” Mr Trump said.

What a rock star  :)

Great minds - exactly - investment in infrastructure and productive businesses.... instead under both Labor and Liberal everything is chaos in the attempt to control the people first - treat them as disposable serfs like the Chinese still do - and all so they can grow rich doing nothing productive and emulate the Chinese Emperors New gathering billions to self.. 

So all the capital has fled and is being exploited in the 'global economy' in tax havens and does not benefit Australia one whit and all the 'projects' are handled by some Offshore Chindian or something who somehow seems to be able to access cash for projects that Australians cannot and thus earn billions out of not paying much here!!
