Looks like this offender didn't have a license guns were unregistered. To buy ammo in NSW you need to show registration papers proving you have a legal firearm that requires that specific ammo. Some reports say it was a semi auto due to rapid fire. |

Sydney father Artemios Mintzas identified as alleged Croydon Park gunman 06 / 10 / 2025 The Greek Herald The man accused of opening fire on pedestrians, drivers and officers in Sydney’s inner west has been identified as 60-year-old Artemios Mintzas. Mintzas, who lived alone in a Croydon Park apartment, allegedly fired dozens of high-calibre rounds from his window on Sunday evening, injuring 16 people and striking several cars, including a police vehicle. He was arrested after a two-hour siege, treated for minor injuries, and is now in police custody awaiting firearm charges. Acting Superintendent Stephen Parry said the operation was “highly dangerous” and praised officers for their swift response, adding it was “incredible nobody was killed”. Mintzas, a Sydney Trains employee and father of two, has no known criminal record or links to organised crime or terrorism. Detectives are investigating his motive and how he obtained the .30-calibre rifle used in the attack. Premier Chris Minns condemned the violence, calling it unacceptable in NSW. |

If it was a .30 cal as reported - it sounds like an M1 Carbine. pop.. pop.. pop... no popwowww .you can hear a high velocity round in the air when it is fired .... POSSIBLY an SKS 7.62 - same diameter....but definitely a lower velocity round used.
An M1 Carbine .30 cal in flesh is pretty nasty ... the report said .30 cal... the range was close... he was a poor shot or drunk... |

Could be - good point. I wouldn't respond to a rifleman with a pistol... only if there was nothing else... and no street cop is going to tackle a gunman in a raised position with a pistol - that's what the SOG are for with their HKs and stuff... in which case you'd hear roller bolt brrrr after BANG as the door goes down (depending on how it is done - could be BOOM BOOM BOOM on the hinges and catch with a heavy gauge shotgun solid shot - faster than a bam bam weight but a line of C4 could do it, but that takes time to set up) and then flash bangs to confuse and blind and immobilise the perp..... Semi auto for sure - not even Lee Harvey Oswald can recycle a bolt that fast... (snide comment - Oswald didn't do it)... |

I would go with SKS (Chinese AK47) in 7.62x39 going from size of bullet holes. I don't like 7.62x39 it's slow lots of drop and piss poor BC. We imported over 300K of them before 1996 didn't see that many handed in back in 1996. They were around $399 back in 1994. Old guy no glasses Iron sights with a rifle that wasn't very accurate to begin with might explain the luck people had in being missed. Unlicensed unregistered so instead of cracking down on illegal firearms the government is likely to further restrict licensed firearm owners to give the appearance they're doing something. |

The semi auto SKS eject cases a fair way bolt action nowhere near as far. If it was a bolt action they would have landed in his flat or on shop awning. A friend had a SKS they were only 3-4 MOA at best which is piss poor accuracy. Iron sights at night old guy no glasses. When we look at numbers of imported 30 cal semi auto the SKS would outnumber all the others combined. How do you feel about mandatory jail for those caught with Illegal guns or would Labor oppose it because it would lock up their voters? |

SKS good for very close quarters... but essentially a piece of shot worthy of a mass attack. Hardly a sniper rifle.. Long ago I said I would prefer a heavy round with solid guidance... knew a bloke who was shot and fell and his defenders shot his attacker through a palm tree.. soft tissue vegetation. Not an AK etc.... |

Here is the hedging.... "No, the NRL Women's Rugby League (NRLW) does not currently allow transwomen to play in sanctioned women's international matches, following a 2022 International Rugby League (IRL) ban and the development of an eligibility policy based on physical differences and safety. The policy aims to balance inclusion with the safety of all participants but has not yet permitted transwomen to compete in international competitions." Note the shifty spin.... a cunning stunt reversal indeed.... |

High calibre is a bullshit term used by the media for anything bigger than a Daisy in .177 High powered is another term what some might think is high powered migh be average it just comes down to opinions. I don't think .243/.260/7mm-08/.308 are high powered they are common hunting rounds Many will say .308 and 30-06 are higher powered than 7mm-08 they have more muzzle energy yet the higher BC of the 7mm outperforms them at distances over 300 yards. For me high powered would be anything like the 7mm .300 win magnums etc i would include 28 Nosler which is similar to 7mm RUM. The 280 Ackley improved gives 7mm magnum performance with less powder i would rate the 280 as above average. Barrett is Australian owned look at the .416 Barrett for what manufacturers come up with. In 50 BMG the 750 Gr Hornady Amax outperforms M33 military ammo which shows ammo plays a big part in performance. No AK ammo 7.62x39 in this list sniperworking_zps57c28c7b_003.jpg (127 KB | 8

I’ve been trying to put rhyme or reason to this.
All I could think of (without knowing him, his life situation or interviewing him) is a build up of emotions over time until boiling point. Sone people don’t know how to diffuse pent up feelings. Especially getting older and maybe not so much support around them as parents are gone, kids grown up and doing their own thing. Etc The other reason is new medication (anti depressants etc) scripted by doctor. Now there are some of these that have made people do unimaginable crimes when having a clean record all their life. Mind altering anti depressants prescriptions are not for everyone and like anything, no yardstick to go by if a person can tolerate it until too late. |

It wasn't a bolt action rifle take note of earlier post i made with cases being found by public. If it was a bolt action rifle cases would be in his unit or on shop awning. Semi autos eject fired cases a fair distance from rifle. A .308 has more power than old .303 i would say .308 is one of our most common hunting rounds. By todays standards the old .303 wasn't that good lots of bullet drop along with poor BC means it gets blown further sideways than most in crosswind. Quote:
M1 carbine is semi auto uses 7.62x33mm. .308 is 7.62x51mm 30-06 being 7.62x55mm. Shorter case with M1 holds less powder Note said he was suicidal. Grappler picked it as M1 |
