Title: Australian recognition of Palestinian state Post by Armchair_Politician on Sep 22nd, 2025 at 12:52pm
I fully support Palestine becoming a sovereign state of its own and for the Palestinian people to determine their own fate and to govern themselves without outside influence. But not now - not yet, at least. Not until every hostage taken by Hamas terrorists is released. Not until Hamas is disbanded and disarmed. There can be no rewards for Hamas, and that's what Albanese's misguided, symbolic recognition does. Nothing more. It is a colossal foreign policy failure by the Albanese government and brings shame to Australia as a whole.
Having said that, I disagree with the ongoing action by Israel. They can't keep going until Gaza is just rubble. I agree they have been pushed way too many times by Hamas and the attack by Hamas on Israel that killed 1200 and saw over 100 hostages taken was just wrong in no uncertain terms. But I do think Israel is going way too far now. |

I agree. It's about time the Palestinians got their poo together and formed a functioning state. No point "recognising" a nation that does not exist, other than as a hole in the map. It took the Israelis a few weeks. Not sure why the Palestinians need a few generations.

Yes. The Israelis have been pretty slack. They should all be long given up by now. But that is not the ultimate problem. The people of Gaza still support Hamas. So whoever replaced Hamas would just be another version of the same thing. No-one with an interest in building a functioning state wants to, and is capable of, ruling the Palestinian people. If such a group did exist they would have been handed the keys long ago. |

Israel has no interest in confirming its own borders, nevermind those of a Palestinian state, as the original mission of Israel's establishment is not yet complete, being: the establishment of Israel across the entirety of the ancient Jewish regions.
Parts of those regions, many occupied by Israel, but not already incorporated into the Israeli state (a state which includes East Jerusalem, which, under international law, Israel illegally annexed) are claimed as Palestinian territory by Palestinians and the UN. |

Are you offering us an excuse for why the Palestinians still have not established a functioning state, after several generations of a power vacuum? Do you think they are waiting on the paperwork from Israel?

Paperwork that would never arrive anyway. Jews have waited 2000 years for this opportunity... they've gone 80 years without confirming or declaring Israel's border, while bacon-slicing unincorporated territories over time, occasionally strategically withdrawing from land they don't intend to annex, while infiltrating others with settlers... In the last 40 years, Israel has annexed East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights... The West Bank (known to Israelis as Judea and Samaria) will be next. |

I don't believe they do. Hamas rules Gaza with an iron fist. They execute anyone who they even suspect of not abiding by their ways. They steal aid supplies meant for ordinary Gaza citizens and use innocent people of Gaza as human shields by placing weapons caches and safe houses under hospitals and schools and apartment buildings in the hopes that they will not be struck by the IDF. I don't believe the people of Gaza want to live under Hamas rule. I think they are just so fed up with the death and violence that they just want to live in peace. But that is at odds with Hamas' primary aim - the destruction of Israel. As long as Hamas has its weapons and power there will be no peace and ordinary Gaza civilians will continue to die and starve and suffer. |

Hamas were elected, because Fatah was seeking peace with Israel and the establishment of a conventional (ie, functioning) state. Hamas wanted war. The people of Gaza wanted war. Every opinion poll taken since clearly shows that the people of Gaza still support Hamas and still support war with Israel. Maybe it has changed as a result of the current war. I doubt it. When they say they welcome death, they mean it. With the exception of the constant stream of racist, Jew-hating propaganda (which Meister cannot help flood every thread with), Hamas is not running a propaganda campaign as most tyrannical regimes would. They have a religious imperative. They are on a mission from God, and they want the residents of Gaza to know what they are up to, which they do, and they welcome it. There is no confusion or ignorance in Gaza as to what living under Hamas means - more war. |

The Palestinians are the gold medallists at the victim Olympics. It defines them It's in their DNA It's their culture. Their emotional set point. Seriously go and listen to Sam Harris ( a very honest intellectual) and some of the recordings of hamas fighters to their parents as they massacred Jews women and children. The joy in the parents voices The pride that their son was martyring himself. The bonding over death and suffering. They are a cancer and a death cult which must be rooted out. Surgeon Netanyahu can't just chip away at this cancer. Every node. Every cell must be purged from the body. Gaza must be subjected to radiotherapy, chemotherapy. The scalpel. Cold hard steel. Till everything is cleansed of this abhorrent cell lineage. Only then can healing occur. Carry on noble Jewish medical team. Save the patient from this evil cancer |

That settled - Nazi/Jew-hating is as Nazi/Jew-hating does, suh ... the lines between realities are often blurred and people sometimes, like Good Germans, say things in all seriousness that are intrinsically evil. It's a bit like Charlie Kirk lamenting the inevitability of a limited number of gun deaths due to a right to ownership (by appropriate citizens - you cannot control gun ownership of criminals), and that coming out as a cold and hard comment on the actual deaths. It's not the same, but emotive thinking creates of it something different, and we humans are prone to emotional thinking - it's a defence mechanism created by our need to interpret the world through 'feelings' (you see where that can lead some these days) ... I too believe in a two state solution but I don’t believe it will happen in my lifetime or my daughters daughter’s.
What I believe has happened here is Hamas has achieved one of its goals. It has easily wedged weak western governments with a Muslim minority but very vocal and violent bent into forcing Albo to be “ seen “ to do something for their complaints. France, Canada, the same. But because it’s just knee jerk vote buying rhetoric I feel it will actually make everything worse. 🇮🇱 Israel if pressed and actually could care will simply go on a massive land grab before boarders are drawn up. Hamas will remain in control, both sides will become even more aggressive and the cycle will not only continue but become even worse. Simply because a little man from a little country chooses to represent the tiny minority of his tiny population in an effort to gain votes and puff his cheeks out talking rubbish in the U.N. I appreciate our government fascination with the Hamas vs Israel war is what they believe will gain them more votes than supporting Ukrainian independence against Russia let alone daring to have an opinion on china aggression towards its Asia neighbours but it all amounts to nothing, zero. Do anyone else see and understand that what tiny, down under which makes nothing ( other than coffee and sandwiches) isn’t taken even remotely seriously in middle eastern conflict? Yes Albo has won a few hundred Muslim votes by his efforts and distracting the topic away from the cost of living crisis, the housing crisis and of course our own lack of defence treaties with our nearest neighbours but in no way did his little U.N. Stunt do anything to help either side involved in the conflict on the other side of world. May very well have made it all the worse. Little leaders would do better to continue to try and achieve something relevant for their own country and stick to playing in the shallow end of the pool. I suggest until Albo can show his ability to deal with our own domestic issues his well out of his mental reach talking about international issues. |

and yet, and yet .... Two massive failures stand out. The Voice failure and now: Pro Palestinian support and failure to stem the rise of Anti-Semitic sentiment in Oz. Two major failures. Your errors: 1. Every hostage has been returned, except for one of the bodies buried under the rubble of Gaza whose remains are impossible to locate. 2. Hamas was created out of the UN's failure (post the '67 war) to finally end the conflict as proposed and adopted by UN res 242, a failure caused by Israel's determination, backed the US's veto in the UNSC, to torpedo UN res 242. eg Israel never intended, inter alia, to accept the envisioned division of Jerusalem, during the Camp David peace accords in the 80s and 90s; indeed a Jewish fundamentalist murdered his own peace-seeking PM (Rabin), citing OT "Promised Land" mythology. 3. Hamas, now much reduced and despised even by many Gazans for having created the present terrible conditions in Gaza, COULD easily be neutralised by the US (ie Trump), and the whole world would assist Fatah to govern a functioning Palestinian state as conceived in UN 181; but with Netanyahu openly rejecting a Palestinian state, the US is looking the other way....while Trump is too distracted by the Epstein files, Maduro, Ukraine, and his falling poll numbers at home. 4. It's true that mere recognition by Albo doesn't create the Palestinian state, but it at least demonstrates to Oz Muslims that he supports Muslim claims to their Palestinian state, which is important to avoid social conflict in Oz at this time of heightened passions on all sides. That an IS fundamentalist (the mirror image of the Jew fundamentlist) committed the murders at Bondi is tragedy, but nothing to do with Albo. Far from "rewarding Hamas for terrorism", Albo is pushing back against the Conservatives who say they support 2 states - but only on Israel's terms. News flash: the UNSC should set the terms for peace, not Netanyahu. Your one correct statement: " I do think Israel is going way too far now". Indeed, but don't expect a hearing from Netanyahu who seems to think Jews are "Chosen People" who don't have to abide by UN resolutions. |

Gaza wouldn't be a rubble if they hadn't attacked Israel on 7 October, 2023, or even if they had released the hostages Christmas that year.
But the Gazans kept the hostages, kept up the fighting, from schools, hospitals, residential building. There are no military sites in Gaza, only terrorist sites in civilian buildings. There is no distinction, the terrorists are the civilians, (including UN workers). They kept it up for 2 years Why? To buy international sympathy with their ruthless sacrifice of the lives of their own families, their wives, children, parents. Truly evil. |

Have a look at the videos Gazans are posting of their life in luxury before Oct 7th and what happened to their homes after. Egypt has a border with Gaza their wall closing Gaza off is far more secure than Israeli wall. Why do gullible antisemitic idiots like you ignore the fact Egypt has a shoot to kill policy with Gazans trying to enter Egypt? Quote:

It was a classical each way politician bet - recognisig a state that does not exist and has no locality in which it could exist. IF it ever exists somewhere - it will not be where Gazans are now and certainly will not be in Israel - even in Gaza it is too dangerous to Israel on a permanent basis, and nothing but endless trouble.
He was sucking up for the Muslim vote and to the idiots in the streets, getting them onside, while actually giving nothing. It's wedging - and has no value in the real world. |

Anthony Albanese’s approval rating as Prime Minister has dipped in the wake of the alleged Bondi terror attack, with almost half of respondents to a new poll unimpressed with the government’s response. Mr Albanese’s support fell 15 points from +6 to -9 between November and last week, according to a poll of 1010 Australians conducted by Resolve Political Monitor for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers. The drop, according to the poll, represents the Prime Minister’s lowest approval rating watermark since the May election. https://www.news.com.au/national/politics/anthony-albanese-prime-minister-hits-lowest-approval-rating-since-election-retains-lead-over-sussan-ley-after-alleged-bondi-terror-attack/news-story/6b722506cfd14d4bdf21db2b5c44c2ce Albanese was booed at Bondi. Anthony Albanese and his senior ministers have been accused of “wilful blindness” in responding to warnings from security chiefs on anti-Semitism and extremism, as police, security and intelligence personnel fear they will be made scapegoats by the government.
Multiple security sources have told The Australian that the Albanese government’s “permissive” approach to the scourge of anti-Semitism, lack of urgency in response to extremist threats and failure to adequately resource security and intelligence agencies cannot escape scrutiny following the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. The truth is unmistakeable: the alarm bells were ringing long ago. The October 9, 2023, protest at the Sydney Opera House, the 300 per cent rise in harassment, threats and assaults against Jewish Australians; the arson and vandalism of Jewish businesses, schools and places of worship; the anti-Semitism on university campuses, the unchecked hate speech, the weekly protest marches calling for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. “And the repeated briefings, particularly to Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, from security agencies all pointed to a growing and foreseeable threat. “There is a legal term for ignoring such warnings: wilful blindness, when someone deliberately avoids knowing the truth so they can later claim ignorance. It is about accountability for choosing not to see what is in front of them.” Prominent national security figures told The Australian the Albanese government did not have a “real focus on national security” and that the security architecture and personnel had been degraded since the 2022 election, when Labor came to power. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/politics/eyes-wide-shut-on-extremist-threats-anthony-albanese-and-ministers-ignored-the-warnings/news-story/14171b2bc32cb908d28be3a983f82409 |

Well, in my retirement years I get to read and digest a lot more information now that I did before and I am seeing what was a big rise in unpopularity for the PM and Albaneses slowly but surely reversing back to the status quo as the Coalition's tactics fail. I mean, the idiot Frydenberg attributing a misquoted set of comments made by Sir Peter Cosgrove about Hitler in a rant at Bondi, accusations about Albanese not being at Bondi when he was at a hospital visiting wounded people, the disgraceful attacks by the screeching Cash and Ley over Penny Wong are now all coming out as false. Even the temporary Sussssan ley has been apologising and back peddling as fast as her legs will move. The opposition had an opportunity here to show leadership and compassion and position themselves as a viable alternative but instead they will become the compost heap for disinformation and below belt tactics. |

The PM had endless opportunities to show leadership since 2022, when he assumed office. Even more so since October 2023. He went back to type : USyd Trots student politician. They booed him because he is a spineless little man out of his depth. The entire parliament with a few honourable exceptions, are unreconstructed 1980s and 90s student activists. Pathetic. Albo, Tony Burqa, Wrong and the Labor Left are intimidated by the Muslim and muiriculti vote. Much of urban Libs are also nappyshitters on the 'wacism, islamophobia' front. Australia and the West has had political leaders for decades - the Uniparty - that has actively, purposefully imported masses of enemy aliens. There is no reason for flooding liberal democracies with millions of people who are openly, fundamentally hostile to it - except to destroy it. Islam has not improved Austalia in any way. Yet since 2001, the rate of Muslim immigration has increased very significantly. Nor have Pakis, Sikhs, Gujarati, Chinese, Africans, Maoris, Sudanese. Government can control for how many hours you can leave the house or if you, as a citizen, can return during Covid - but it cannot control the influx of hostile demagogues who will murder people on the beach, preaching jihad every Friday, self-segregate from the society that has taken them in?? Nuts to that. |

Oh, the ironing!!!
The Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the African Union (AU), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have joined numerous countries and foreign ministers in decrying Israel’s formal recognition of the Somali breakaway region of Somaliland as an independent state. ‘Dangerous precedent’ Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit called Israel’s action “a clear violation of international law and a flagrant infringement of the principle of the unity and sovereignty of states”. “Any attempt to impose unilateral recognitions constitutes an unacceptable interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and sets a dangerous precedent that threatens regional and international security and stability,” he warned. :D :D :D :D |
