Title: Vacant tax…
Post by Sophia on Jul 31st, 2025 at 6:39pm
Well I did start the topic in another topic but maybe I should’ve just started a new thread… so here I go!

Well…. You all know about vacant house/residential tax….now a new one is coming to your block land soon!

They are going to tax vacant blocks of land. Or if you are building or renovating but taking more than 2 years…. Tag you’re in for it!

I know some that had land but couldn’t build because of land slip.
I wonder if that gets taxed?
Then there’s those unfortunate people that paid builders that only partially built a house only to have builders go into liquidation or whatever.
And take off with peoples money… so they can’t afford to finish the build so soon… will they get taxed?

Such a compassionate government… Victoria, you’re standing in it  >:(

No, one of the exemptions listed.

Land that cannot be developed: For land that the Commissioner of the State Revenue Office is satisfied cannot be used or developed for residential purposes.

Well thank goodness for small mercies… but then again, not if one can’t build due to land slip.
Some cases of this about 2 years ago… we had strong storms here and many of our trees were either snapped in half from the top or uprooted. A lot of trees down everywhere, but worse was up in Mount Dandenong where trees destroyed houses, and as a result it had been therefore classified as land slip and home owners couldn’t rebuild.
Can’t sell it either.
Hope there’s mercy shown for them also.
