Title: Re: The top 10 in the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs Post by greggerypeccary on Jul 28th, 2025 at 4:05pm It's a good song. Not sure about some of the others in the top 10 though. What about Wide Open Road by The Triffids? |

Any list of Australian all-time top 10 that doesn't have 'Long Way to the Top'... Yeah... nah, nah, nah, nah, nah...

INXS are good but I would not have that song in the top 100.

Seems the majority of respondents to the poll were under 30, which will have an impact on the songs selected, even of some of them are from the 80s, or in the case of Khe Sanh, from 1978, but has become a well recognised party song.
However I would have had Khe Sanh, Long Way To The Top and Pub With No Beer up there :) |

And not to mention Thunderstruck, Highway to Hell...
Surprised Farnham's You're the Voice didn't show its face in the list. And no Midnight Oil? Yer what? No "King of the Mountain"? Beds are Burning? Blue Sky Mine?... Australia has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to rock music... There can't really be a top 10. |

And you'd recommend reading Wodehouse and listening to Schubert, I'd bet, eh, Agatha Frank (they/them). Gay men 'with something to write and compose about'. |

If Geoffrey Chaucer wrote for AC/DC...
I was y-caught In the myddel of a lightnynge stroke. I look'd 'round, And I knew not what y-broke. Mine minde it raced, I thought, “Where shal I be?” And I knewth— ther was no socour, no socour of thee. Thou hast been Thonderstronk! Yea, yea, yea, Thonderstronk! Rode I down the way, Way down to Southland. I was y-stricken, With no comp'ny, no company, at hand. Folk did looke at me With staring eyen so wyde, And I knew— They alle had, alle seen myn pride. Thou hast been Thonderstronk! Thonderstronk! Thou hast been Thonderstronk! We wast schoken at the knees Could I pleaseth thee again, if it pleaseth thee, please? Yea, the ladyes were too kinde, And they sayde— "Thou art a yondre man, With fyr in thyne blood. Thy steede doth roareth, And thy spirit is good.” I sayde, “Aye,” And we drank full deepe. But that thunder Ne letteth me sleep. Thonderstronk! Thou hast been Thonderstronk! Thou hast been Thonderstronk! Thonderstronk! Thou art y-stricken! Yea, yea, yea— Thonderstronk! |

I don't recommend anything. I find rock/pop music utterly banal and stupid. Your listen to it for both of us. |

Just shows how stagnant the Australian music scene is.
All that glitters is OLD |

At Sporting events, they still play music that is 50+ years old.
Australian Music is ruled by old foggeys. ;D |

Hard to believe now, but in the beginning, back in 1955, man didn't know about a rock 'n' roll show and all that jive.
