Malcolm Turnbull has entered the chat. The former prime minister has been a vocal critic of the AUKUS security pact over the years.
In a tweet this morning, he questioned if it was time for the Australian parliament to "wake up". "The UK is conducting a review of AUKUS. The US DoD is conducting a review of AUKUS. But Australia, which has the most at stake, has no review. "Our parliament to date has been the least curious and least informed. Time to wake up?" ![]() |

However, broader technology and defence sharing was also enshrined in the agreement. John Bolton, who was the White House national security advisor in the first Trump White House from 2018-2019, said he was "very disturbed" by news of the review. "The AUKUS deal was one of the Biden administration's biggest achievements from the US perspective, and even to call it into question in the form of a review is a bad signal of the of the ultimate intention by the Trump administration," Bolton told Today. "I don't think they're reviewing it to consider increasing the size of the deal. I think it's more a question of how much of a downsize they're looking at, including potentially total cancellation, which would be catastrophic, a huge mistake for the US with enormous consequences, obviously, for Australia and the UK." |

Speaking of parliamentary reviews, Greens defence spokesperson David Shoebridge is demanding the government use this moment as chance for Australia's parliament to take a closer look at the AUKUS pact.
"It's time for parliament to launch a full inquiry into this dud deal and allow critics of AUKUS a seat at the table, not just a nodding bunch of Labor and Coalition members," he said in a statement. "The USA reviewing AUKUS shows what the Greens have been warning about for years — this deal makes Australia a junior partner in America's military strategy, not an equal ally." Shoebridge warns the US defence department may use the review to "terminate AUKUS and pocket the money already paid" or ask for more money from Australia. "It's pretty clear what any US review into AUKUS will say: The US does not have any spare submarines to give to Australia," he says. "While Trump considers scrapping AUKUS, Australia remains committed to spending billions each year on a deal that ties us to America's military aggression against China." abc |

America sees no problem with bullying and screwing over it's Allies....First they demand Australia increase it's defence spending and now they are reviewing the deal which already favours the United States....The former Coalition Government scrapped the deal with France which cost Australia $835 million for nothing and now the deal Scott Morrison negotiated is falling apart after paying the US $500 million for nothing....The Trump administration are incompetant and unreliable.....Scrap the deal and start over again without American screwing us over....Who needs enemies when you are Allies with the Yanks???

It’s all over! Another fine mess you caused Scomo! I doubt Trump is going to give us the $800 million deposit back and I doubt even deeper Albo would have the balls to ask for it. It’s a bugger our petrol reserves are stored in Texas ( another Scomo failure) because Trump will not be letting us ever touch that! Maybe we should stop paying for the storage and just write it all off. It’s only the best part of a billion wasted. |

Title: Re: USUKA, No Nuke Subs Post by Bobby. on Jun 12th, 2025 at 11:29am
Yanks could blackmail us if we buy their subs – for example -
unless we do what we are told to do they will withdraw spare parts making our subs useless. Also – military devices are normally supplied as "black boxes " where we don't know exactly what is inside them - no circuit diagrams, no parts lists, no source code, and custom ICs that can't be bought and are only made as a one off batch as spares held forever by the Yanks – not us – etc. We are then totally dependent on them – at their mercy. |

I agree Bobby....America first is all about screwing everyone else in Americas favour whilst the Yanks become more isolationist and unreliable....Angus Taylor is blaming Labor for a deal his Government negotiated and Donald Trump does not understand....As the deal was signed by Joe Biden Trump will do all he can to screw more out of Australia and Angus Taylor is on the Yanks side....The Coalition created this mess and are now blaming Labor for their incompetance....Suck up to Trump and give him what he wants is Taylors solution....Taylor is a complete dickhead who thinks making political point scoring is more important than Australia's defence!!! ::) ::) ::) |

China is too powerful for us -
they have the largest navy in the world - no matter how much we spend we could never defend ourselves without help from the USA and perhaps the UK too. |
Title: Re: USUKA, No Nuke Subs Post by Ai_Took_Our_Jobs on Jun 13th, 2025 at 9:43am
Sinking a few fuel ships heading to the country would probably be enough to cause the country to fall.
Nuke subs on the never, never will not save us. |
Title: Re: USUKA, No Nuke Subs Post by Daves2017 on Jun 13th, 2025 at 12:46pm
We need nukes but not submarines, nuclear weapons.
We need to get over this belief that England or America must protect us. |

There you go again,Brian, nobody calls the Steam submarines ‘Atomic’ anymore, the buzz word for these conventionally powered steam boats is ‘Nuclear’. In answer to your question, try Gotland-class submarine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotland-class_submarine |

The range of the Stirling engined subs is limited by the amount of compressed oxygen that they can carry and that limits their range, however that is a design choice and as we have no need for unlimited range then a Sterling engined sub can do what we need and SILENTLY unlike the noisy steam boats. |

Pity that Bill Shorten isn’t PM, then we could call him “Steam Boat Bill”.
