Title: Export gas, run out, import gas. Post by Captain Nemo on May 30th, 2025 at 1:28pm
Like an episode of Yes Minister ... We export the gas, then run out of the stuff, then import it back again? :o
Gas storage terminal for Victoria gets state government approval Victoria's planning minister has given environmental approval for a proposed floating gas terminal off the coast of Geelong. The Viva Energy floating gas terminal project, to be built in Corio Bay, has been strongly opposed by local and environmental groups. The government says the project will ensure gas supply won't run out for the vast majority of Victorian households who rely on it for cooking and heating. A proposed gas storage terminal off the coast of Geelong with capacity to supply most of Victoria is closer to being built following approval by the state government. The Viva Energy Gas Import Terminal Project is designed to shore up the state's gas supply before a forecast shortfall by 2029. The project would consist of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage ship docked in Corio Bay off Refinery Pier, and 7 kilometres of new pipeline to link up to the existing gas network. ... The project would enable gas from from Australia and around the world to be brought in and deposited in a permanently moored storage unit. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-30/viva-energy-gas-terminal-project-approved-victoria/105356430 |

Yep. Let renewables do their thing. ;)
Of course Victoria is allowing traditional gas supply exploration again, but the ban on fracking remains in place. ;) |

Only an idiot would blame renewables. It has nothing to do with renewables. We mine more than enough gas to serve our needs. Govco just needs to stop it all being exported. |

You mean politicians embracing renewables had no impact on fossil fuel extraction in Australia? "The area available for gas exploration in NSW has been significantly reduced." https://www.resources.nsw.gov.au/resources-regulator/exploration/onshore-gas-industry "NSW passes legislation to ban offshore drilling and mining" https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-releases/nsw-passes-legislation-to-ban-offshore-drilling-and-mining John Smith wrote on May 30th, 2025 at 8:03pm:

Irrelevant. You must be stupid as I already explained it to you once. I'll repeat because i know you are slow. We already produce more than enough gas . . they just need to stop exporting it all |

The Whale Singer had the shelf project life extended until 2070 - but the paradigm for extraction and marketing and profit and taxing is wrong for Australia - oh wait - it's not FOR Australia... sorry ..
Persuade me there are not some mighty fat brown paper bags doing the rounds.... |

Yes petal. But they don't export it all. So you are starting from a place of stupidity and multiplying it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D According to the reference it is about 70-75%. |

you really are stupid you know that. I don't give a rats arse what the percentage is. The fact remains that we don't have enough for domestic use because they export it. You can keep pretending you have a clue if you like, meanwhile i'll just keep laughing at what a moron you are. :D |

It's a dumb idea - so I understand you approving. Why would any sane govt import gas that we have already exported & pay a higher price for it? It negates the govt royalties received from the companies exporting it .... who no doubt will recover that plus double in selling the gas back to us. All that needs to be done is create a Gas Reserve for domestic use. At state and federal level. |

The gas supply from Bass Straight is running out....How do you reserve gas that does not exist....I am not approving anything I am just stating the obvious....Stay stupid dickhead!!! ::) ::) ::) |

https://www.afr.com/companies/energy/conocophillips-gets-nod-for-major-victorian-offshore-gas-exploration-20250303-p5lgdc We are not running out of gas - and for the Bass Strait wells being decommissioned, new are being opened. Our problem is too much of our east coast gas is going to export. I reiterate - importing gas that we have already exported overseas or that is sold & onboard a ship that is bought back to unload at an inflated price is absolute lunacy. It's understandable why a mullet brained moron like you would think it a viable option. ::) Screenshot_2025-05-31_104026.jpg (106 KB | 14

Got underground gas storage at Iona Gas Plant and Otway Gas Plant at Warre near Port Campbell. Got processing & storage plants at Longford and Long Island Point.... & Bass Gas at Lang Lang. They could do an offshore storage - as long as it's not an "import" facility. There is no shortage of gas ...... we should not be contemplating importing our own gas back. That is a Dodgy Brothers idea from those seeking to make profits at taxpayers expense. |
