Title: Cops allowed to sling tackle victims. Post by Bobby. on May 19th, 2025 at 6:26pm
a terrible decision by the magistrate:
"The case was thrown out in 2023, with Magistrate Rob Stary finding a jury could not conclude whether Sergeant Barrett had acted unlawfully." It was a murderous "sling tackle" or "spear tackle". It involves grabbing the victim around the arms so they can't break their fall with their arms. His head was smashed into the concrete. If you did that to a cop you'd be charged with GBH - grievous bodily harm and be in jail for 10 years. So the magistrate is saying that is quite legal to do - if a cop does it to a victim but not the other way around. It's like the cops have a license to kill and maim citizens. BTW - sling tackles and spear tackles are illegal in Rugby Union and Rugby League - players have had their necks broken and become quadriplegics from it. https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/news/no-excuse-to-be-treated-like-that-mother-calls-for-apology-for-son-who-died-years-after-covid-arrest/news-story/36ff071afde9ccf2b6f7b05720f803c9 ‘No excuse to be treated like that’: Mother calls for apology for son who died years after covid arrest A young man’s death years after being arrested during a Covid lockdown has left Aussies shattered. His grieving mother said he had just one message. Brielle Burns May 18, EXCLUSIVE The mother of a deceased man who was four years ago thrown to the ground by a police officer during Melbourne’s Covid lockdown has called for an apology from the officer involved. In a disturbing incident which would go on to make national headlines, Melbourne man Daniel Peterson-English was filmed being tackled to the ground at Flinders Street Station by acting sergeant Beau Barrett after he was arrested on September 22, 2021. The footage, which circulated widely on social media around the world at the time, showed then-Acting Sergeant Barrett walking up behind Mr Peterson-English before throwing him to the ground, causing his head to hit the hard floor. Sergeant Barrett was suspended and charged with recklessly causing injury and assault over the incident, which occurred on the same day an anti-lockdown protest was held in the city’s CBD. However the case was later dismissed. The Court was told at the time that Mr Peterson-English had taunted police multiple times, and had heard about the circumstances of the day including escalating crowds. His cause of death has not been confirmed and a coroner’s report will be released next month. There is no suggestion that it occurred as a result of the tackle. Before his death, Mr Peterson-English told his mother he wanted Sergeant Barrett to personally apologise for the “horrendous” incident, which left her son with facial injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard. “He (Daniel) said to me many times, ‘I just want an apology from him’,” Margaret English told news.com.au. “That’s what is needed,” she added. “I’d like to see an apology.” Ms English, a retired nurse of 40 years, said it was an “important” gesture and she was “shocked” to learn the officer had returned to operational duties following an internal investigation. “I couldn’t believe that, that could happen,” she said. “If a nurse had done that, they would be deregistered. “There would have been severe consequences if Daniel had done it to a member of the police force. If he had come up from behind … and grabbed someone and ended up smashing their head (on the ground).” |

If the cops were doing this only to black people Blooby wouldn't mind.
Thank goodness no black people live in Chicago. |

I don't think that would count as a spear tackle in rugby.

It wouldn't but it clearly was craven and excessive force, given the numerical superiority the Cops had. |

Cops are not meant to get in the ring with every junkie they come across. They are supposed to put the welfare of themselves and their colleagues first. They are required to.

According to the jury, they didn't. 'Excessive' is the start of the story, not the end.

But they're a weird lot down Victoria way these days - on the one hand they cry for 'labor' governments and follow them as if they are The New Messiahs with all their 'social improvement' lies - on the other hand they approve of absolute government control up to and including smashing down any dissidents.
Purest madness in the country, but it's the 'lefty' way ... clearly they do not understand what Freedom is... A few nukes along the Murray and we could have cut it loose... |

'“It may be that the arrest was executed in a way that is not in strict accordance with the manual, but whether it could be said to be unlawful and whether it could be said to be done without any regard to the probable consequences and criminal intent, in my view a jury properly instructed could not convict Mr Barrett of those offences” said the judge". The Age.
It's preferable not to bang a citizens head on concrete to make him unconscious but a jury would OK it, of course. |

There was no jury - the case was thrown out before it went to trial. |

Nah it wasn't a sling tackle - he was wrapped up and taken to the ground. What side would you be on had the bloke been armed & confronting you in the mall & a copper came up behind him and took him to the ground? |

Strawman fallacy - he wasn't armed. It was a murderous "sling tackle" . It involves grabbing the victim around the arms so they can't break their fall with their arms. His head was smashed into the concrete. |

No problem with that, I worked with an ex cop and he told me how he went to the aide of an injured person on the road and the injured person who he wanted to help stabbed him. Took away his confidence in meeting people, lost his career, lost his marriage, lost his house. The injured person spent 4 months in jail. |

It was all part of the vicious Govt that Daniel Andrews inflicted upon the citizens here in Victoria.
Many people will never forgive the cops for what they did - following the wicked orders from despot Dan. We saw what communism was really like and the suckers voted for him again after it. |

Title: Re: Cops allowed to sling tackle victims. Post by Bobby. on May 20th, 2025 at 2:25pm
It is interesting to note that our "democratic system" did nothing to stop Daniel Andrews.
The Magistrates, the Judges, the Governor of Victoria, the police commissioner, the opposition, the doctors, all jumped on the totalitarian bandwagon. Nothing was going to stop the Dan. It shows are fragile and dangerous our communist State has become. |

Poorly trained was he? An injured person 'on the road' was able to be close enough to stab (perhaps confused in the darkness as to who was bending down?) This guy was walking around shouting and filming and was grabbed from behind. That should be disabling by arm twist if the cop was trained. |

The person that stabbed him was a victim of domestic violence and he was trying to assist her. It was during the day, and yes it was poor training, they had not trained him to leave a wounded person on the road just in case they might stab him. |

That's nice. He needed to be trained to approach by assessing the person/ drunkard/ druggie. Even breathalyser testers outside a car do that. (That is, grab this injured woman and slam her face into the road). (Shoot the sus car-driver).
