All Australian workers are entitled to a minimum wage. This is the least you can be paid for doing a certain job. It's illegal for an employer to pay you less than the minimum wage. As of 1 July 2024, the national minimum wage is $24.10 an hour or $915.90 a week (if you work 38 hours).

Wages rose 3.4 per cent over the year to March, driven by strong wage increases for workers paid under collective agreements. This is the clearest sign yet that working people’s incomes are finally being restored after years of going backwards.

The ABS Wage Price Index shows that wages for workers on collective agreements rose by 3.8 per cent over the year to March 2025 – the strongest annual wage growth in the quarter among all pay-setting methods.

Real wages rose by 1.0 per cent over the year to March 2025, the sixth consecutive quarter of real wage growth.

Healthcare and social assistance, as well as education and training, were among the sectors experiencing the largest gains. Workers from these sectors have benefited from significant wage increases from the Federal Government’s workplace relations changes, highlighting the importance of the new rights in improving workers’ living standards.

This positive real wage growth has occurred while inflation has dropped from a high of 7.8 per cent in December 2022, down to 2.4 per cent today, comprehensively undermining any claims of a ‘wage-price spiral.’

The Fair Work Commission’s Annual Wage Review decision is expected in early June 2025. The decision will directly impact more than 2.6 million workers on minimum and award wages.

This follows the Cabinet’s approval of the Federal Government’s submission to the Commission to back an above-inflation wage increase, in line with election commitments to support real wage growth.

Australian Unions argue that a 4.5 per cent minimum wage increase is essential for supporting Australia’s lowest-paid workers and lifting the wage floor for the broader workforce.   :)

You lot are just so slow... these are the real Nazis - Stalino-Nazis who are happy to cause immeasurable harm to achieve a tiny spot of what they consider light in the darkness... just look at 'relationship violence' and the rising cost in lives and livelihoods and everything else since government stomped into it all with their jack-boots on, and used it as the avenue of removing legal firearms as well as imposing a totally unwarranted control over private issues and thus of individuals.

How many people have been harmed by the current approach?  Hundreds of thousands, in millions of ways - not least in the utter loss of social cohesion and standards.  You only have to look at the Great Divide between men and women these days - and what that portends for the future of humanity, let alone this country.

One of the worst aspects is - and will be - that the 'patriachists' with their family structured around a single head and the others with less power etc, will raise their dominance over OUR culture of free ranging individuals, by the simple expedient of having all their eggs in one basket while we continue to spread them to the four winds.  They will continue to buy properties and prosper as a FAMILY while 'we' continue to bicker amongst ourselves over who do the demned washing up and heads to the divorce court over toenail clippings left on the patio!

Do you not see what has been wrought upon this once great land?  It had its faults - we were sorting those out one by one following the love revolution of the sixties into the seventies... you may not always agree with the 'hippies' etc, but their hearts were in the right place ... nowadays the 'hippies' - the 'fringe elements' - are violent, aggressive, name-calling abusive rat-bags ..... then governments found the ways to undermine those advances and return us to the Dark Ages and into neo-Feudalism all over again.
