Yes, but they can’t be deployed by the State Government even if they wished to.

The State controls bail; ‘nough said.

We need this judge’s name in public quickly follow by his sacking.

The judicial system in this country is a shambles and needs radical reform.

The local public should vote and appoint local judges.

Not the current failing system.

It's obvious our Judges are way out of touch with community expectations Bwyan.

Judges aren't supposed to follow advice - they're supposed to apply the law.

In this case the law was not applied.

This young criminals rap sheet included charges of rape, aggravated assault, deprivation of liberty, sexual intercourse with a child under 16, and assaulting and resisting police.


You're so far blinded by your own virtue signaling because this grub is aboriginal.

Are you happy that the(white) grocer has been murdered?

Were you also happy when another Aboriginal youth who was also out on bail for aggravated assault stabbed to death a young(white) bottle shop worker in Darwin in March 2023?

Youth crime and especially Aboriginal youth crime is out of control in the NT.

These Judges need to be held accountable. Their positions should not be untouchable once appointed.

A manhunt is underway for an aboriginal suspect after an elderly supermarket owner was stabbed to death in Darwin.

The 71-year-old owner of the Nightcliff Friendly Grocer on Progress Drive died in his own store on Wednesday evening after telling a man who was stealing items to leave, witnesses told NT News.

One witness said she called emergency services just after 5pm after seeing the attack.

“As soon as we entered we heard the voice (of the man), he tried to kick (him out), while (he was) stealing things,” she said.

“Two staff members directed him to the door and suddenly (he) took out a knife and stabbed the man … and he collapsed.”

She described the knifeman as “skinny”, aboriginal, and wearing black clothing.

NT Police said on Wednesday night they believe they have identified the suspect, who fled on a bicycle, and are trying to hunt him down.

A teenager who was out on bail has handed himself into police overnight after the owner of a Darwin supermarket was stabbed to death on Wednesday afternoon.

Linford Feick, the 71-year-old owner of the Territory Friendly Grocer in Nightcliff, had confronted a man allegedly stealing items from the shop around 5.15pm.

Police said Mr Feick asked the man to return the items, before the man allegedly stabbed him with an edged weapon and fled the scene on a bicycle.

Police said customers provided first aid and called emergency services but Mr Feick died at the scene.

St John Ambulance NT's Craig Garraway thanked first responders, which included "doctors and nurses and other bystanders who did everything they could to try and support that gentleman".

"Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain," he said.

A worker at a nearby shop described the scene.


"The 18-year-old was on bail with conditions to remain in a remote territory community and did not have an electronic monitoring bracelet as a condition of his bail," they said.

"Charges are yet to be laid."

Assistant Commissioner Wurst said the alleged offender, who had only turned 18 three days ago, was granted bail in the NT Supreme Court "for serious matters" just last Thursday.

Agreed Brian, Judges elected by local citizens or the full electorate is a recipe for cronyism and failure of the rule of law.
