Antarctic sea ice falls to near-record low as study reveals 'structural change' :o

So we only have satellite data for 45 years and it is worse than we thought. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet has underwater volcanoes, but we won't mention that.

Meanwhile physical photographs from 1937 forwards show the East Antarctic Ice Sheet has been stable and growing slowly.

Can be translated from the original journal. ;)

More from the OP -

""Obviously, we don't have a time machine, but what we can do is do something called 'reconstructions'," he said."

We don't need no stinkin' photographs, we can build a model. ;D ;D ;D ;D

The paper is mostly detailed Bayesian analysis—won’t try to understand and explain.

Yes. It is called a model.  ;)

(google)

Bayesian analysis is a statistical method that uses probability to answer research questions. It's based on Bayes' theorem, which combines prior knowledge with new data.....

Now for a reality check on the climate alarmism: https://dailysceptic.org/2024/11/16/antarctica-sea-ice-has-slowly-increased-since-1979-science-paper-finds/

Seems that what is happening is still debatable.

And the prior knowledge was?

And of course the further you go back in time the wider the uncertainty. ;)

"A statistical model can be seen as a procedure/story describing how some data came to be. A Bayesian model is a statistical model where you use probability to represent all uncertainty within the model, both the uncertainty regarding the output but also the uncertainty regarding the input (aka parameters) to the model. The whole prior/posterior/Bayes theorem thing follows on this, but in my opinion, using probability for everything is what makes it Bayesian (and indeed a better word would perhaps just be something like probabilistic model)."

And nowhere do they discuss this uncertainty.

Dr Hobbs - "He said further research was needed to better understand the cause and effect of the altered conditions in the Southern Ocean."

Aka - send more money. ;)

Strange how the increased ocean temperature only affects the WAIS. ;)
