I am translating a short note from political scientist Semyon Uralov (Семён Уралов) from Telegram.
About Trump and Greenland Each new US administration opens a new front to weaken competitors. Moreover, US presidents carry out preparatory work for their successors. In words, they [presidents] may conflict with each other, but the course to create specific problems, lay the foundation for deferred conflicts and open new fronts is unchanged. The Biden administration brought Finland and Sweden into NATO, thereby preparing the ground for Trump-2 special operation in Greenland. Just as the Trump-1 administration once began actively supplying weapons to Kyiv, passing the baton to the Biden administration. Greenland is the Arctic front of the US against Russia. On this front, the US has a minority stake, so Greenland is needed for formal dominance in the region. Also extremely important are the northern vassals from among the small European countries. One of them will try to commit suicide against Russia, as a post-Ukraine. "Beat your own, so that others are afraid" - the central principle of the policy of our overseas partners has not changed since the Northern States [of America] robbed the Southern ones during the civil war. |

The Bidens in Ukraine met agents of the Russian Imperial Cossacks and ordered a cavalry charge into Crimea. The US then handed Putin the Oreshnik drawings and told Finland to join the Pentagon or Russian tsunamis would sink Helsinki. Sweden's Nazi Homo terrorists then followed Finland as Trump threatened to give it to Putin. He may do it on Jan 20th. |

Greenland, Panama and Iran are first up, shurely. One thing I can tell you, the old boy will cheer on louder than he did during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. VENGEANCE !!! |

Greenland has been a mining nation since the late 1700’s, where coal was excavated in Qaarsut on the Nuussauq Peninsula. In addition to coal, a mining has included gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, graphite, olivine, cryolite and marble. A number of mines have closed in recent years, including the Seqi olivine mine near Maniitsoq, which was shut down in 2011, and the Nalunaq gold mine near Nanortalik, which was decommissioned in 2013. However, new mining projects have been launched, including a ruby mine near Qeqertarsuatsiaat (Fiskenæsset). An application is expected to be filed for a mine to exploit rare earth elements and uranium at Kuannersuit (Kvanefjeld). ..... Assessments suggest there is a huge potential for oil exploitation in the waters off Greenland. To gain a better insight into the geological conditions, international oil companies employ seismic surveys and exploratory drilling within their assigned offshore license areas. Similar investigations are also underway on land (onshore), for example, on the Nuussuaq Peninsula, where the discovery of oil seeps in the nineties sparked an interest for further studies. .... In October 2013, the Parliament of Greenland, Inatsisartut, officially changed its mining policy and opened up for extraction of uranium and other radioactive minerals in Greenland. No, dear, he's taking advice from the last person he talked to. He'll forget it immediately and move on. DL never listened to military advice anyway. He's called for his last military chief to be executed for treason, remember? The one thing cult worshippers ignore is the threat to their own self interest. For all of the Trump/Elon focus on Greenland, the Pacific is being left to Chi-na. Australia has been left to police the South Pacific all on its own. South East Asian countries are doing deals with China, selling off their real estate and watching the Middle Kingdom quietly expand in influence. Countries like Laos and Cambodia have become little more than Chinese vassal states. It won't be long until China makes a serious move on Taiwan - a big deal for a country with a population of 23 mil and 20% of the world's microchip industry. Forget Panama, China is gaining control over the shipping lanes of the South China Sea. The Panama Canal will always be subject to US influence, the US government doesn't need to own it. The Pacific is another matter entirely: the more the US gets entangled in other areas, the less security we have in Australia. This has been made clear in the case of Ukraine, which was granted a US/NATO security assurance in 1993, in return for handing its nukes over to Russia. That agreement meant something to Sleepy Joe and Congress, who agreed to chip in for Ukraine's defence after the Russian invasion in 2022. It means nothing to your DL, erected prez in 2024. He's already signalling Taiwan can go get fucked. I'd suggest the ANZUS treaty means very little to him too. Australia's interests rely on the post-war order your DL wants to end. He sees global relations as a set of competing military/economic power grabs. We rely on the goodwill and shared interests of integrated economies. Our entire business model relies on it, as has the US for the past 70 years. We rely on free trade. Trump's election saw our dollar drop significantly, and we're now staring down recession if Chinese development - and exports - don't pick up. The threat of trade wars and rising tariffs rings alarm bells on the ASX and the RBA. Your DL's agenda is poison to Australian prosperity. Australia's very existence relies on free trade and travel. Australia's an island. We're an outward-looking nation of immigrants that relies upon foreign trade. We've done so since 1788. We became more so after the reforms of the Hawke/Keating era. We've relied on these things since the British Empire, through to the rise of East Asia. We export primary products - wool, iron ore - and we import manufactured products - clothes, cars, building materials. We even import most of our oil. We keep less than three weeks in refined oil reserves. We need those Pacific shipping lanes open, safe and secure, just like every other Pacific nation. So for all your devotion to foreign white nationalism, remember your place. We're Aussies. Your DL is not out for your interests. His brand of competitive global rivalry and insular protectionism is antithetical to your own interests and survival. In any other time in our history, such subservience to foreign autocrats would render you a traitor. Nazis were rounded up in WWII and communists were kept under watch until the 1990s. Even "papists" were once on the nose. DL's infiltration of a mainstream party in the US doesn't make him much less dangerous than any other far-right extremist, KKK or Aryan Nation leader. We saw his embrace of the Proud Boys, banned as a terrorist organization in New Zealand, and we saw him direct them to the Capitol on Jan 6. There, the peaceful transfer of power was blocked for the first time in US history. None of this is in the interest of Australians. We don't want Australia made great again. We're fine just the way we are. |

Putin has had sanctions put on him over the war in Ukraine - as a result Russian gas and oil has been cut off and must be supplied in some other way or the whole world will got into a recession or even a depression. Greenland is a vital area for the military security of the free world and to push against Putin's expansionism. The small number of people in Greenland - only 56,000 people cannot be put ahead of the world's prosperity and security. It has taken someone with balls like Trump to want to do something about it. Bold new push for Donald Trump to seize control of Australia: 'Make Australia Great Again' Aussie fanbase praises Trump's landgrab plans Published: 12:37 AEDT, 9 January 2025 | Updated: 13:43 AEDT, 9 January 2025 Donald Trump's fanbase is calling for him to annex Australia as the incoming US president makes wild claims about a planned landgrab. 'I don't wanna give Trump any more ideas, but these guys don't have guns anymore,' said conservative journalist Chadwick Moore in a post to social media on Wednesday, alongside a map of Australia. It comes after Trump suggested he might use 'economic force' to make Canada the 51st US state, and announced a plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. He also refused to rule out using military force or economic coercion to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal. Mr Moore's post on Wednesday received thousands of tongue-in-cheek but supportive comments. 'Make Australia Great Again. Works for me!' said one. 'Are you saying you'd take it by force? No need, we'd sign up,' said another. 'As an Aussie, please take us, we need all the help we can get,' said a third. |

No, Lee, but I'm curious. How are those funds "given" to NATO? Countries' defence budgets are spent on themselves. NATO's running costs, it's common or direct budget, is EUR 4.6 billion (2024). Of course the US spends more on defence - it chooses to fund the biggest military in the world. The contribution to NATO's running budget, however, is in the above link below. https://www.nato.int/cps/ro/natohq/topics_67655.htm You'll note that Germany now pays exactly the same contribution as the US (15.8813%), with France (10.1940%) and the UK (10.9626%) close behind. Your article listed the 2023 budget for total defence spending. The above figures are for 2024. NATO notes Germany and Poland's increases in spending, a legacy bestowed by Vlad, but committed to a number of years ago. So no, dear. Providing aid and funding your own military defence are two totally different things. |

Aww: Trump Announces He Will Let Barron Pick First Country To Invade
U.S. — Donald Trump revealed his sensitive side this week when he announced he would let his son Barron pick the first country to invade. "Ever since he was 2 he's been asking me to invade a country," Trump told reporters while in attendance at Jimmy Carter's funeral. "He'd say, 'Pop, I want to attack Morrowind.' — or some made-up place like that — but now he's old enough to choose a real place, so I'm going to let him pick. I'm going to be the father Biden never could be. Sleepy Joe, I call him. Sleeping on his children's dreams." A source close to the Trump family claims Barron is deeply touched by the gesture from his father. "I don't know what to say, he reportedly said, overcome with emotion. The elder Trump allegedly responded by holding him close and whispering, "Just say Greenland, me boy." Though no official announcement has been made, the world's countries remain on high alert. Russia is particularly vulnerable because they're already at war with Ukraine, but experts suggest Barron may not be thinking on those terms. "Honestly, he'll probably troll everyone and invade Taiwan just to throw us off," said retired General Ben Hodges. "It's what I would do." Critics argue letting a child choose a country to invade is no basis for foreign policy, but Trump disagrees. "It's the kind of gift every father should be able to give to his son," he said. "Plus you really can't go wrong. So many good options, frankly." |

Trump is not the first president who has expressed interest in claiming Greenland for the US. It was expressed in 1867, 1910, 1946, 2019 and now in 2024.
Greenland is one of the very few territories, beyond the small islands it currently claims, the US would have a national security interest in administering as a territory. Very few countries important to US national security resist a US military presence within their territory... Yemen being one of them. |

No, Trump isn’t smart, nor is he a statesman, he’s a salesperson. Don’t confuse the two, they are fundamentally different. Trump is a masterful salesman. Even when his contradictions are recorded for all to see, when he changes his message to suit his audience, often outright lying, he’s managed to make the truth irrelevant. The public has come to expect his dishonesty. It’s not seen as a failing but as part of his brand, encapsulated in “the art of the deal.” The issue arises when his lies collide with reality. After making conflicting promises to different groups, assuring them of outcomes that cannot coexist, he finds himself incapable of delivering. Quite literally, he can’t fulfil what he’s sold, it’s impossible. Yes, he won two presidential elections. But this wasn’t due to intellectual prowess or expertise in domestic or foreign policy. It was the result of his ability to sell a narrative, however detached from reality. His record as President, particularly after his first term, demonstrates a glaring weakness: execution. He’s adept at making promises but fails to follow through on them. Yet, his skills as a salesman allow him to distract from these failures. By discrediting his opponents and their parties, he fosters enough distrust that his supporters overlook his broken promises. They continue to believe he can fix the very problems he’s perpetuated, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Trump is, without question, a phenomenal salesman. But he is not a statesman, he is a moron and his Achilles’ heel lies in delivering on the grandiose visions he so skilfully sells. Can the US recover from another Trump term? |

Counterrevolution Blueprint How to eliminate left-wing racialism from the federal government The second election of Donald Trump, along with Republican victories in both houses of Congress, sets the stage in the United States for a confrontation between democracy, which depends on representative institutions to form a government, and the rule of unelected elites, which relies on claims of expertise to control the state. |
Title: Re: Donald Trump has again expressed interest Greenlan Post by Frank on Jan 15th, 2025 at 5:50pm
Already, internal opposition to Trump is organizing within the federal agencies. CNN reports that Pentagon officials are discussing disobeying official policy. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has declared that he would refuse if Trump asked for his resignation. Some would like to see a reprise of the orchestrated counteractions against Trump, from the Russia collusion hoax to the Hunter Biden laptop censorship to the political prosecutions that led to his arrest and felony convictions.
The coming political confrontation is unusual because the specific antagonist is hard to identify. Trump is not contending against Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, or even the Democratic minority in Congress. Instead, the president-elect’s post-electoral opposition comes from inside the executive branch itself, in defiance of Article II of the Constitution, which opens with the unqualified statement: “The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.” In recent years, phrases like “the deep state” have arisen in American political discourse to describe this phenomenon, in which administrators, bureaucrats, and unelected officials seem to wield a kind of power that we still lack appropriate language to describe. Part of the motivation is self-interest—bureaucrats want to protect their positions—but another is ideological: the federal government is steeped in left-wing race and gender ideology, and its adherents see Trump as an existential threat. By rights, he should be. The incoming president has, under the Constitution, every right to bend the administration to his vision, which is contrary to the tenets of left-wing racialism. But those ideologies, which the Biden administration has entrenched through its “whole-of-government” diversity agenda, have long ruled the agencies that control the details of federal policymaking. Hence, the conflict: the president, who has formal authority, versus the ideological bureaucracy, which has real power. At the end of his first term, Trump attempted to correct this problem through actions such as an executive order banning critical race theory in the federal government. The second Trump administration must go further and dedicate itself to a process that Vice President–elect J. D. Vance has described as “dewokeification.” This is the most urgent policy problem facing the administration, because without representative institutions and a restoration of constitutional authority, it is not possible to govern America. The Trump administration has a unique opportunity to take decisive action on Day One, through executive orders that can serve as the opening salvo in a counterrevolution. The basic premise: the U.S. should strip left-wing racialism from the federal government and recommit the country to the principle of color-blind equality. Through an aggressive campaign, Trump and his cabinet can put an end to forms of discrimination disguised under the name of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) and make government work again. The process of ideological capture has taken decades. But the counterrevolution can, and must, quickly retake those institutions in the name of the people and reorient them toward the enduring principles of liberty and equality. Bureaucrats abusing the public trust to advance their own ideologies should be put on notice: they will be shut down, their departments abolished, and their employment terminated. The administration will work to rid America of this ideological corruption before it further rots our institutions, demoralizes our citizens, and renders the government totally incompetent. The counterrevolution begins now. The rest is here: https://www.city-journal.org/article/counterrevolution-blueprint |

More COVID-19 deaths occurred during Biden’s presidential term than Trump’s, but this claim is potentially misleading without context. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the Trump administration for just one year. In contrast, it impacted the entirety of Biden’s presidential term. As of September 2024, COVID-19 was responsible for 1.2 million deaths in the U.S., with the majority of those deaths occurring during Biden’s presidency. However, death toll figures under both the Trump and Biden administrations aren’t directly comparable because Biden has been in office for a longer period of time since the virus emerged compared to Trump. Once we account for the duration of each administration, the weekly COVID-19 mortality rate was lower on average during the period coinciding with Biden’s presidency. |

I expected nothing less than your default approach: dismissing it outright, ProudKangaroo wrote on Jan 15th, 2025 at 1:43pm:
It’s a pattern. Someone makes a claim that challenges your perspective, and you demand proof. When they provide it, you dismiss the evidence, not because it lacks merit, but because you cannot reconcile it with the reality that rarely aligns with your worldview. Take Trump, for instance. He’s infamous for tailoring his rhetoric to suit his audience. This isn’t a mark of flexibility or strategy, it’s duplicity. If you tell two groups two different stories, you’re lying to one, if not both. When it comes time to implement those promises, someone will inevitably be left in the lurch. It’s an unavoidable consequence of his brand of political showmanship. Trump is, at his core, a salesman, a dishonest, slimy one who’s parlayed those skills into political success. But being an effective salesman doesn’t equate to being a good leader, let alone a statesman. Salesmen care about the transaction, not the product. For Trump, the sale is the election. Once the deal is closed, his interest wanes, and he moves on to the next spectacle. During his first term, we saw this in action. Trump seemed far more captivated by holding rallies than governing. For him, the rallies were the point: adoration, applause, and affirmation. Governance? That was incidental, a tedious obligation he barely tolerated. He doesn’t care about following through on his promises. At best, he recycles them, blaming others when he inevitably fails to deliver, or just lies and claims they were delivered knowing that his fans won't bother to check, and if the media do, it will be dismissed as bias. Because the truth is, he doesn’t care. He never has. His first term was a masterclass in this indifference, and there’s no reason to believe another term would be any different. |

During Trump's presidency, there was a modest uptick in coal mining jobs. This was largely due to regulatory rollbacks and a temporary increase in global demand for coal exports. However, the increase was minimal, roughly a few thousand jobs at its peak. For example, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported about 50,000 coal mining jobs in 2016, which rose to around 53,000 jobs by mid-2018. Subsequent Decline: Despite efforts to boost coal, structural forces like the rise of cheaper natural gas, renewables, and automation continued to erode the coal industry. By the end of Trump's term in early 2021, coal mining employment had fallen back to around 42,000 jobs, according to BLS data. The focus was on the coal industry friend. Swing and a miss, again. |

Trump made repeated promises during his 2016 presidential campaign to bring back coal jobs and revive the coal industry, particularly in states like West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. This was part of his broader message of economic revitalisation for regions affected by the decline of traditional industries. He left the industry worse off after leaving office. And you want to blame market forces? Are you offering Biden the same luxury with inflation and the economy? |
