First impression is crew wasn't ready for the emergency as navy crew should be and skipper didn't exercised proper caution in uncharted waters.
Anyway have to wait for inquiry results.
Good thing that nobody was seriously hurt.

I am gobsmacked that the OOW and the helmsman did not know the auto pilot was engaged. This is utter incompetence.

Good to see the Kiwis weaning themselves away from the PRC, if only by proxy in this case. The government at last seems to have realised that they have jeopardised their security relationships with Australia and the US with their 'Belt and Road' deal.
