'Traditional rights' - not ownership - shared management .... no rights to exclude anyone.... just wait for the nifty little side steps with "Oh - that's a spiritual place - we found that out yesterday" ...." or "gee - the track's broken even though it was all fixed two weeks ago at huge cost" .... and all the supine government lackeys sucking their balls over those things instead of telling the truth...

As long as they don't get the wrong ideas in their heads and start being aggressive to visitors all will be well.  No point licking their nuts all the time... that only makes them worse.

The cave paintings etc sound good to view.... you reckon the photos with cameras and phones will frighten the spirits or something?  But you can buy a photo at the exit counter ..... no worries .... and all those 'sacred sites' that keep cropping up ... why not just try a Fraser Island and say the whole fishing spot was sacred.... well - it's sacred to modern fishermen etc, too.... so get out of the way.... nobody is stopping YOU from throwing in a line, turkey.....

You really must not use phrases like 'handed back' - nobody has been stopping them from free ranging national parks and icons..... and it's not as if they owned it or are being given ownership of it under the laws..... that's a different legal position from 'traditional rights', which is not ownership.

Using the wrong phrase gives them and others the totally wrong idea of how this actually works.

Now then - they can camp, wander and fish etc.... paint but not over existing paintings.... they cannot exclude others or interfere in the rights of others to wander and camp etc ... they share management with national parks - but hey - as Albo put it so well - which one of those is going to say NO to a demand?  They are PUT there to say YES, selected carefully for the job and probably from the same group .... and we all know it, Brian.

This is government suck-holery of the finest water - and it will be overthrown with the governments that try it on.   8-)

Shared management means consultation - not ownership or 'handed back'..... be wary of freaks bearing grift... now consultation could be viewed as Voice By Stealth - I'm happy enough with this kind of local consultation - as long as consultation doesn't mean acquiescence or 'we'll punish anyone who doesn't 'listen" ... obtaining with menaces ... the first example of such MUST mean the deal is off.

Yes - I have the same feeling - they actually care about that island etc, and it would be a shame to see it wrecked - it should be fully retained as a national treasure with all the rock paintings and such.

We all on same side really ... well - maybe not that dick-weed the other day at the car park.... I think I've encountered him somewhere else - he's a traveling mad activist who even the local groups don't really want around them.  I'm pretty sure I ran across him in Eden when I drove the bus there for the club.  He was there for 3-4 days before the local Aborigines told him to piss off and not hassle their 'uncle' - me.

He's all mouth anyway.... but one day he'll talk like that to the wrong guy.

Don't forget to NOT use false terms like 'handed back' - that is a lie and propaganda.  They are getting a say in management - not control over it.... and not possession of the land there... just the Native Title rights to free shared use of it and within the laws of the State and Commonwealth...  (tyre-slashers laid for the speeding fanatical ideologues) .. for example no cannibalism ...............
