The last reversal happened around 780,000 years ago. The magnetic field is much weaker, as low as a tenth of its normal strength. With a weak electromagnetic field, radiation from space could possibly make some regions of Earth uninhabitable. Concrete shielding reduces the intensity of radiation depending on the thickness and density of the concrete structure.A wooden door of various thicknesses has been used most often in X-ray diagnostic centers around the globe. Scientists who live under bridges are in a good position to survive extinction.

Magnetic field has declined 9% over the last 200 years according to NASA. If our magnetic field was so low we would not have seen the huge aurora we saw this year.
