Title: Monorails
Post by Sir Eoin O Fada on May 21st, 2024 at 8:46am
How many of the world’s monorails are really monorails?
Just watched part of a video shewing a ‘monorail’ in Japan that was the usual running rail and two steadying raails, making it a trirail.

Sydney's trains run on a monorail with only one balance rail.

Which of the pair is the monorail?
Sydney’s now defunct amusement ride aka the Monorail was actually a narrow gauge railway that used guide wheels instead of flanges.

It depends on which direction you are travelling.

If you are facing towards the tracks, it's the one on your left.

Then that’s a two rail system.

Yes. One monorail and one balance rail.

The rail is then at right angles across you. And also from the opposite side of the duorail.

The NSW rail system uses tracks that work in both directions.

Like a right angle? It's a mono shape with two (2) rails.

By definition a monorail has only one rail.

In Moscow, a relatively small section of the Moscow metro system is a monorail. This train travels quite slowly.

I do not know why it was built. Either the Moscow government wanted to experiment or they were showing off.
