Many Australians sound dreadful - even our news readers on TV.

example the word people.

Instead of saying "peepil" -

they will pronounce it  "poypul".

I remember Julia Gillard used to do that too.

Pretty good, he has missed the yobbo aussie.
That'ld be good to do. Heard often in country Victoria, far North or a suburb pretty close to me.

Starts off
'MMmmmaaaaaaatttttttteeeeee, didya see the .......'

then deteriorates into swearing and off comments.

I've noticed lately that a lot of Australian women can't pronounce 'girls' properly.

They say 'gills' or 'geels'.

It's got nothing to do with 'upper class' and 'lower class' like other nations. As the Australian accent originates from a 'middle-class' Egalitarian way of life.
Where this bozo gets his capitalism rich and poor styles from is probably 'America' and sucking up to Americans for attention for his clip.

The 'slight' variation in accent here is due to 'formal' speaking and 'informal'.
The traditional variant is to be 'informal' based on a priority of 'social' talking over 'working' talk.

Thus, the words are 'lazily' shortened (early Text/SMS speech) but pronounced longer in saying them.

This is also highlighted by the 'social' structure of more 'holidaying' than working priority and saying something like "Maaaaaattttttttte" drawn out expresses one has much time up their sleeve to say it like that.

This guy is interpreting the Australian accent(s) from an American perspective for an American audience.

Opium - slow working dope.....

I remember Julia Gillard used to do that too.

Jane Turner did that when she was doing her Kath Day persona. Not Gillard.

No - at least half the announcers on TV say "poypul".    ;D

I suppose I do remember Gillard saying "poypul" during an interview. I think Dutton is also guilty of doing that, too.

I know I am guilty of saying "foind" instead of "find" sometimes.

It's embarrassing to be Australian.
Those people sound like country hicks yet they
can hold the highest office in the land.    ::)

Look at Albo - he has a speech impediment.   :o

An email pal of mine from America said that she thought "sticky beak" was the most hilarious Australian term she had ever heard. I scratched my head thinking about the innocuousness of the word.

An American came in to my restaurant, some years ago and asked if there was wifi here. I told her that there is at Maccas. She was confused and said "Whuh? What?". I thought calling McDonalds "Maccas" was worldwide.

Took a while to understand what an Australian "Crow Eater" was.

I had to look up what that was, even though my guess was right. The term's origin is quite literal, with the settlers having eaten crows, when other food sources were scarce.
