All apps extract data, and under national security laws,

US lawmakers have renewed efforts to crack down on TikTok over national security concerns related to its Chinese parent company ByteDance. The bill would prohibit TikTok from US app stores unless the social media platform is quickly spun off from ByteDance.

The bill, called the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, advanced out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee last week. And on Wednesday,
it was passed in the House with 352 affirmative votes
and just 65 representatives dissenting.

Many of the roughly 170 million Americans who use the app have raised concerns that banning TikTok could mean doing away with a platform that represents much more than a platform where young people can follow the latest updates about the Princess of Wales. It’s where they go to find connection, get entertained, seek information and earn a living. Some of those TikTokkers phoned their representatives in recent days to urge them to vote “no” on the bill, after the app alerted users to the potential ban.

TikTok is one step closer to being banned.

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that could
lead TikTok being banned in the US if its Chinese owner does not sell.
The legislation will now go to the Senate and it'll need Joe Biden's approval.

our own Govts also force media companies to tell them
about everyone's private data. Ask Snowden.
It's not unique to the Chinese.

USA just wants to create their own version of TikTok so they can do exactly what the Chinese do, but to their own people.

or in any form of communications.

Even the encrypt part of Microsoft Outlook is easily broken by security agencies

If I delete TikTok, it can't still collect my data, right?

Well, that depends on exactly what you are deleting.

If you delete your account and uninstall the app from your phone, TikTok can't collect your data going forward, says Katherine Isaac, an executive at cybersecurity firm Carbide.

But that doesn't mean all your data disappears right away. TikTok will still have access to the data it collected about you during the time you used the app, said Isaac.

"They do have in their statement that they delete data after a certain period of time, but it's not very clear what that period of time is."

TikTok's privacy policy also outlines a way you might be able to "access, delete, update, or rectify your data."

They say you can request information about your data, report a privacy violation or ask about a particular privacy issue by filling out this online form.

If you delete your account, but continue to keep the app on your device and interact with the platform, TikTok will continue to gather some data on you.

There is no privacy.

All media are forced by the Govts to give backdoor access
to the Govt security organisations.
That is without a warrant too.

Back in 1995 when Bill Gates put out Win95 he was forced against his will
to secretly give the NSA the source code of Windows 95.
That has been the case ever since with every later version.
Bill Gates was angry about it but there was nothing he could do.
He was also prevented by law from telling the public about it.

The NSA is capable of going into any Windows computer in the world
and downloading any file they want without the victim ever knowing.
It doesn't matter what firewall you have or what you do to stop it.
If you're connected to the internet you're wide open to them.
The most likely method is that they spoof a fictitious Windows Update which
is actually a remote control hidden executable file.

I think Yemen was the first nation to incorporate all platforms as spying upon their citizens.

I think the problem is that Tiktok is more popular than Meta, X and Instagram.   And despite their efforts to catch up (e.g. Youtube reels), they were not able to compete with Tiktok on their algorithm - which is an industry secretion worth over 100 billion at the moment. 

And this is part of struggle between USA and China.   And at the moment, China is out competing USA with current USA laws.  And so.. this legislation /law is written to remove that competitiveness on the grounds of national security. 

There are people in USA have already formed companies to take over Tikitok at a discount.  E.g. the formal Blizzard CEO.   I guess, in this case... its a win win for US companies.   :)

Tik Tok maybe .... but what about your own govt collecting your data? That will still be happening will it not?
