Is this the same Australian government that has now made the majority of the population believe the pandemic is over and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is now "just a cold" (for the sake of the economy)?

By the way... all the signs are now pointing to a horror flu season coming up for Australia this year... and with several new Covid variants about to be 'unleashed' upon us at about the same time I'm sure the death toll for the flu and Covid combined will be horrendous. But I'm also sure the government (with a LOT of help from the media) are going to do everything possible to 'hide' or at least minimise the death toll like they've been doing with Covid deaths lately.

Of course most of this upcoming disaster could be avoided by the majority of the population wearing a (high quality) mask but since our governments don't have the intestinal fortitude to mandate or even recommend mask wearing anymore (it also upsets the economy apparently - see my signature at the bottom of my posts) I doubt we'll see that happening. Mainly due to masks and other Covid (and flu) containment measures being deliberately 'sold' to the Australian population by governments and businesses as restrictions rather than protections.

We might see more recommendations for hand washing and coughing or sneezing into your hand or elbow but that does absolutely nothing to prevent the spread of airborne viruses like Covid and the flu (and our governments know it).

As I've said before - I wonder how many people still remember when Australia was Covid (and flu) free for most of 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid border closures, quarantine and mask wearing, etc.? Not too many would be my guess.

And to think we had to throw all of that away and watch thousands die and see tens of thousands end up in hospital and many more become disabled by Long Covid for the sake of the economy.

Why is it that apparently well-educated, articulate people such as
it_is_the_light and Aquascoot get sucked in by so many of these
conspiracy theories from all sorts of nutters—from vaccinations to
climate change to political cabals etc?

•  In September 2018 Rennick advocated closer ties with Russia because
"they're part of the West; they drink, they're Christians, they play
soccer, they're Caucasian". He's called for de-escalating tensions
with Vladimir Putin and Russia.

•  He called Labor's policy of providing free childcare to all three-year-olds
in Australia a conspiracy "to strengthen the role the state has in raising
a child at the expense of parents".

•  In December 2021, Rennick's claims that the COVID vaccines amounted
to "experimenting" on children, and his anti vaccine posts on Facebook,
were rebutted by multiple health officials.

•  Rennick is a denier of climate science. He's questioned the Australian
government's Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) about its falsifying of climate
data, and has promoted the conspiracy theory that the bureau is tampering
with climate data to "perpetuate global warming hysteria."

—I'm repeatedly confounded as to how these sorts of mental midgets
    (as per Trump) actually succeed in getting into politics.  Where are
    the politicians who're clear thinkers and at the least attempt to do
    their best for the electorate?

This "vaccine scepticism" has also been caused by our governments pretending Covid is no longer a serious illness and it's now just like a 'normal' cold or flu (it isn't and they know it).

It also doesn't help when you have a State Health Minister using the words "post-pandemic" when we clearly are not (and she knows it - or at least she should).

Mind you, it doesn't really surprise me when we have a State Health Minister (Amber-Jade Sanderson) who has more of a background in hospitality and business than she does in health.

By the way - I've just booked the 6th Covid vaccination for myself and my elderly aunt for next Tuesday at our local TerryWhite Chemmart. We'll also be getting our annual flu shot in the next few weeks as well.

As promised... Covid vaccination #6 for my elderly aunt and I today.

I also got the flu shot at the same time (Covid vax in my left arm and flu vax in the right), we've been advised to wait a couple of weeks before my aunt gets her flu shot due to her age.

I have just submitted a heap of mandatory checks for my university so that I can go on placement in an industry that required us to be up to date with our vaccinations. And it is looking more and more likely that they have ditched the covid vaccination requirement of the mandatory checks. It has cost me time, money and built up more stress than immunity trying to get vaccinated, Now, I read this shite that it probably won't be necessary in the future.
