we have had higher temperatures than we have now in recent geological history.

I have an excellent Mitsubishi air conditioner.

It's actually quite cold inside now.

I did all my errands/chores early this morning to avoid the heat.

I've spent the rest of the day in lovely, cool, air conditioned comfort.

When I checked on my poor old wheelchair-bound mother this morning she had winter clothes on, because she said her (LG) air conditioning was so cold.

I wouldn't live in Perth without AC.

The temperature has now gone down to 38 degrees (4:45pm).

There is a strong west/southwesterly wind blowing now here in Rivervale but it's taking a long time to cool things down obviously because it has had to travel over hot land to reach here (I was really hoping it would cool down more quickly after the sea breeze came in just after lunchtime).

30 degree forecast now for tomorrow.

Then it would be too hot for me when I visit (every morning to make her meals, do her washing & cleaning etc.).

She's an old lady with poor circulation - she's always cold.

She doesn't drink water, so I have to keep her cool.

What's False
Greenland was primarily an ice-covered island when it was discovered by Erik the Red in the 10th century. He chose the name "Greenland" to encourage settlers to the area.

Using ice cores from Antarctica and Greenland, researchers have extended the climate record back 800,000 years and have shown that the world's largest island may have been sealed in ice for at least that long

In 1981 researchers removed a long tube of ice from the center of a glacier in southern Greenland at a site known as Dye 3. More than a mile (two kilometers) long, the deep end of the core sample had been crushed by the pressure of the ice above it and sullied by contact with rock and soil. By destroying the pattern of annual layers, this contamination seemingly made it impossible to assess the region's ancient climate. But DNA extracted from the previously ignored dirty bottom has revealed that Greenland was not only green, it boasted boreal forests like those found in Canada and Scandinavia today.

Biologist Eske Willerslev of the University of Copenhagen and an international team of colleagues discovered DNA from alder, spruce, pine and yew trees at the glacier's base as well as insects ranging from butterflies to spiders. This is the "first evidence for a forested southern Greenland," Willerslev says. And based on the tree species found, Greenland must have been warmer than 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) in summer and never colder than one degree F (–17 degrees C) in winter, much warmer than present conditions..

The Greenland climate was a bit warmer than it is today, and the southernmost tip of the great island was luscious and green and no doubt tempted Eric the Red and his followers. This encouraged them to cultivate some of the seed corn they brought with them from Iceland.

The Vikings also tried to grow other agricultural crops. Their attempts to grow these crops and barley did not last long, however, as the climate cooled over the next couple of centuries until the Little Ice Age started in the 13th century."
