Perth is roasting and it probably means all of Australia will roast as the heat permeates through the country.
"So far, one-third of the days this year – 15 out of 42 – have recorded temperatures of 35 degrees or above." https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/there-s-no-break-triple-troughs-to-blast-perth-with-yet-another-heatwave-20240213-p5f4ho.html Quote:

From Perth it's just a giant sprawl of suburbs, black tar roads and cement. Trees cool the land, not heat it up. Nothing but Wheatbelts where it doesn't rain either. Trees attract the rain.

Could an extended period of warming of central Australia and Western NSW lead to a dust storm like the one that hit Sydney in 2009.
2009 was a year when global temperature was higher than in preceding years and decades. It was the highest temperature year on record at that time, just like 2023. https://www.climatecentral.org/climate-matters/2023-5th-hottest-us-year-with-record-billion-dollar-disasters Quote:

I've been seriously thinking about moving to Albany lately.
Compare the pair: Perth Forecast Albany Forecast And Albany is only 415km from Perth, about a four and a half hour drive. I really think Albany should have been the capital of WA and not Perth. In fact, if it wasn't for the Swan River Perth probably never would have been established where it is now. And that would have been great... especially in summer. |
|
Title: Re: Perth roasting ... It aint arf ot mum Post by I, Robot on Feb 14th, 2024 at 11:33pm
If Albany became the Capital of WA, then northern WA would split off from southern WA. No way would the northerners put up with such a long drive. :D
Albany does sound like a far better place than Perth. But hey, most regional places are way better than the major 'city' areas by far. Personally, I'm thinking of moving to the Chatham Islands. |

Actually Perth suffers from heat generated in the centre of Oz (a vast desert), when Highs are stuck in the Bight, directing easterlies over Perth. So Perth is hotter than the Alice today, because the same High is pushing cool ocean air up into the centre's east. Note : this year, Feb mean daily av. max. temp so far in Perth: 36 C. Adelaide, 28C....8C difference! Long term av: Perth is only 2 degrees hotter than Adelaide in February. (BOM stats). |

The seas off Albany are very rough. Every beachcomber would become a treasure hunter if there was more ship traffic in the area.

Title: Re: Perth roasting ... It aint arf ot mum Post by I, Robot on Feb 15th, 2024 at 3:26pm
Well there is so much sea-rubbish washing up at Albany - one could make a treasure out of it like some locals do with all the nets for craft-works for tourists.
A lot of Bitey-Whiteys swimming along the Albany coastline too. Still, reckon it would be far better than the likes of Perth, that's for sure. Reckon the State of WA will one day split in two and Broome will become the northern Capital city. |

Carl & Pecker to get their dream weather of 50C+ coming up.
Watch the heat bake the Treeless State with no respite of shade or breeze. The black roads are gonna get all sticky and enhance the heat, while stuff all fresh water around in that Waterless State. I mean, no offence Pecker and Carl - but you really have a crap State, with nothing to it, except that its bigger than the rest. |

Ah - so it's not the water that affects the functioning of the mind over there - it's the heat... only mad dogs and Western Australians go out in the midday sun..... and no wonder their Aboriginals do not want to work under such conditions but prefer to rely on the Disadvantage Industry for their unearned riches and easy lifestyle.
All that lawfare over there... just never ends.... and due to the heat, it also seems that everyone's balls have dried up and nobody says NO any more to utter nonsense.... |

Where I am 31°C was the hottest day and the nights are 10-15°C—you can sleep.
I had ceiling fans plus lights installed in 4 rooms (2BR, study and lounge) but haven’t used the fans much. Neat is that you switch on the light using a remote control—bright light. Click the light off then on—medium level light. Do that once again, quite low light level. With the vertical blinds good control of warming and lighting of the rooms. |
