Title: Kiwis v Maori/British Treaty
Post by I, Robot on Feb 10th, 2024 at 1:49am
Seems the Kiwis are aiming for some 'changes' that won't give the Maori their usual 'divisive' powers over Kiwis.
The Treaty was made between the British & Maori.
But with the British presence basically all but gone.
The Maori with their Treaty are standing on one foot.
Of course, there's the usual mob of Lefties Protesting for reasons they haven't a clue about. As you see in the clip, its just another Protest for the sake of Protesting - a Palestinian Flag flutters by as well.
You will also see the new Maori Flag being waved as well.
Everything Anti-Kiwi about it.
New Zealand has basically moved on from Britain and it needs to move on from Maoridom as well.
Especially when the Maori's are trying to take New Zealand for themselves in much the same manner as the Boer did with Apartheid.

Surely you mean the Aborigines with Apartheid???  Are you... like... an each way bet person?  In Nu Zulland you can be wrong if you are a Maori minority trying to take over all.... in South Africa you can be wrong if you are a White minority trying to take over all.... but in Australia you can be a Sacred Species minority who has the right to take over all???

What's the difference?

From what I've read - having NZ including Maori rellies, which prompted me to look at this instantly - this government simply wanted to realign the conditions of the Treaty of Waitangi and remove the things that have been snuck in that are undermining it, and also cut back on such race-specific things as a Do Not Smoke campaign directed at Maori.

Apparently like our Aborigines here, as a group they drink and smoke and drug too much and are over-represented in crime figures - never would have guessed... and over the years various amendments or unrelated things have been negotiated - according to one NZ chap much of it on the basis of an English language 'copy' of the Treaty of Waitangi being presented to and accepted by NZ Parliament - and that being full of false 'rights' alleged to have been granted to Maori chiefs, NONE of which appear on the original - and the trouble that has ensued since over this RAPE of the Treaty.

Now that government has meekly surrendered to the baying crowd threatening violence unless they are given their way - opening the gates to further threats, intimidation, violence in reality, and a sense of Entitlement™ to pursue their 'rights' in many Maori ... and to use threats of civil war, intimidation, and violent activism to get what they want regardless of sense, treaties, and common decency.

Of course, in the minds of many such - this - just like here - is coupled with a sense of grievance and a desire for revenge.... which can and will lead anywhere.....

I see nothing good coming from this meek surrender by a government to threats of aggression.

Sounds good to me. Surely there is no place left for racist government policy in modern New Zealand? This should be a warning sign to Australians who keep pushing for more race-based legislation and rights.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/dec/02/fears-for-maori-rights-as-new-zealand-government-reviews-waitangi-treaty

Quote:
The government – led by National’s Christopher Luxon and with the populist New Zealand First leader, Winston Peters, and Act party libertarian David Seymour sharing the deputy prime minister role – has announced at least a dozen policies that provide for Māori will be repealed or reviewed. This includes rolling back initiatives designed to improve Māori health outcomes, stopping “race-based” policies, and minimising Māori language use in the public service.

It plans to scrap the Māori Health Authority, Te Aka Whai Ora, set up to reverse negative Māori health outcomes, and repeal legislation designed to prevent the removal of Māori children from their families.

Announcing the changes on Friday, Luxon, the prime minister, said voters wanted services provided on the basis of need, not race, and he was “strengthening democracy” for all New Zealanders. He told the Post newspaper: “There are some things there that we just need a bit of rebalancing and a bit of clarity.”

"Thirty-three per cent of Māori are disabled but by the time they reach the age of 40, 69 per cent of Māori have a disability," she said.

Quote:
"The treaty actually gives me my rights as a Māori woman to be able to exercise and live in my cultural world as much as being a part of Aotearoa in a larger sense," she says.

"I should be an equal citizen in this country and that's what that's supposed to guarantee."

Bit of double speak there. If you want equality as a citizen, you should reject special treatment or different rights on the basis of race.

Yeah - they're a weak breed, the Maori....

Where's dividie?  He can deny that much of that 'disability' is personal sovereignty based on poor 'learned behaviour' and we all reject the idea that poverty can contribute to crime  .. yardle, yardle....

Where he hiding, dat boy?  Does a mothra on us - sails in for a broadside or two and gets out of Dodge before Righteousness falls upon him .....

There have been a lot of liberties taken with Maori relative to their history in NZ.

One is the UN declaring them indigenous which, as Winston Peters pointed out, is an obvious fiction. Every Maori knows the name of the canoe their ancestors floated in on - from eastern Polynesia, as it turns out, about 800 to 900 years ago - hardly indigenous by any stretch of the meaning - the same cannot be said of those people truly indigenous to their respective lands.

Another is the naming of NZ as Aotearoa. Maoris did not circumnavigate the land masses of the country and did not have a singular name for the country - that is a 20th-century fiction.

A third, which all Maori know, is that the Maori 'people' did not exist. As in Australia, Maori were and are tribal - they were and are Maori peoples. The term 'Maori' was used to distinguish between Maori peoples and Europeans - the 'Pakeha'.

By that definition, the Maori are indigenous to NZ, but plenty of other people regarded as indigenous are not. The Maori might be the only people who fit the definition with certainty.

Or, as the OED defines it, belonging to a particular place rather than coming to it from somewhere else

Winston Peters, of Maori descent, appears not to get any push-back from Maori when he challenges the concept of Maori NZ indigeneity - not least likely because in the mythological Maori tradition, the spirits of their dead leave NZ and return to their Pacifika islands homeland.

Also, I'm pretty sure Aotearoa does not translate to "we paddled our canoe around it". But they did figure out that NZ is two Islands.

Aotearoa refers to the imagined citing of NZ by certain Maori in a specific canoe who encountered a land shrouded in clouds.

Given all the canoes did not arrive at half past ten on Thursday, April 12 1321, it's a good bet that others did not see the land shrouded in a long white cloud.

Yes, they eventually figured out that there were two main islands.

The fact is that modern Maoris' ancestors were Polynesian warrior colonisers who murdered and cannibalised their way around the South Pacific until they encountered the lands now known as New Zealand. They maintained their murdering and cannibalising traditions among each other in NZ but dropped the Pacifika canoe travel bit.

They were similar in many respects to the Vikings of Europe without the cannibalism.

The first Māori dictionary, published in 1844, had no entry for Aotearoa.

The notion that the two main islands of NZ, and those surrounding them, should have a singular identity was introduced to the Maori peoples by European explorers who had actually circumnavigated the islands and had arbitrarily suggested a singular name - not unlike New Holland/Australia.

The notion of the islands' singular national identity is not part of any Maori tradition.

What is it we expect of immigrants who ask of us that they become citizens?

Is it that they assimilate and become Australians?

Why would that be?

If it's true that Maori activists are attempting to redefine NZ as an ethnostate, then that does not bode well for democracy in NZ.

Is that a no?

That's a yes.

Ethnoculture can only be practised by members of that ethnicity.

To associate Maori ethnoculture as superior to mainstream NZ culture, to impose it on the state, and to support it with historical fiction, is to disenfranchise all other citizens of non-Maori descent.

The points I have raised have been raised by Winston Peters in NZ Parliament to argue against imposing Maori ethnoculture on the state in aid of rendering NZ an ethnostate and concocting or advancing historical fiction to drive it.

I have read some of your complaints about Australian Aboriginal culture being imposed on you, so... hypocrisy much?

What historical fiction?

And why would you need historical fiction for an ethnostate?

It seems to me that you are just confused about the real reasons for what is going on, and have somehow convinced yourself that it is the consequence of a few petty misunderstandings like the definition of a Maori word. Can you explain why you think anything would change if the truth came out? And why you think New Zealanders cannot just check wikipedia like I did?

Has it occurred to you that the pro-racists might be feeding you red herrings and pointless BS to distract you from the real issues?

It has occurred to me that a tenacious and fixated obsession with culture for its own sake leads to discord and division.

And yet you are fixated on it.

Can you explain why you think any of the points you have raised here matter?

What is it we expect of immigrants who ask of us that they become citizens?

Is it that they assimilate and become Australians?

Why would that be?

Is that a no?

That's a yes.

Ethnoculture can only be practised by members of that ethnicity.

To associate Maori ethnoculture as superior to mainstream NZ culture, to impose it on the state, and to support it with historical fiction, is to disenfranchise all other citizens of non-Maori descent.

I didn't ask you to attempt to bring up something relevant. I asked you to explain why you think any of the points you had already raised here matter. Can you?

The points I have raised have been raised by Winston Peters in NZ Parliament

Are you saying you do not understand why they matter, you are just parroting a NZ politician?

Imposing historical fiction on the citizenry is the ground on which the argument for an ethnostate is founded.

And why are you so tenaciously fixated on these tokens of culture?

I think it's you who does not know what is going on in NZ.

Maori activists agitated for the Maori language to be, not only an official language in NZ, but the first language of NZ - and they won. This is despite over 90% of kiwis being unable to speak Maori.

This is now being controversially reversed by the new government, which has caused anger within the activist community.

Again, Winston Peters has spearheaded the dismantling of the proposed activists' ethnostate's infrastructure, up to and including the repudiating of the term Aotearoa being used as the name of the country on the basis that it is not the historical Maori name for the country - as there was none.

Again, even wikipedia explains the original meaning of the term.

What makes you think that confusion around the meaning of this word is the basis for what is happening today, and that correcting the public's understanding would change anything, other than perhaps the use of the word? Have you simply believed without question a politician's explanation for why his prattling on about historical trivia is so important? Or can you actually join the dots and make a rational argument?

Or is it that you think the word itself is the problem?

Winston Peters is not just any politician, he is a politician of Maori descent who has spent 45 years as a politician - many of them a senior politician - and, before that, was a campaigner for Maori land rights.

His credentials within the Maori community are impeccable and Maori activist politicians in the NZ Parliament and those outside have no answer to him as he dismantles their demands and ridicules their stand and foot-stomping.

Unfortunately, NZ suffers from its own acute form of wokeism such that non-Maori Kiwi zoomers are more than happy to kowtow to any social 'justice' demands made of the country by these activists, (they make Albanese look like Hitler) - even if it drives the country into bankruptcy.

Yes I am sure he is a wonderful person who kisses babies and bakes cookies for fund raisers.

Are in incapable of making sense because you are in love with him?
