The US military has it deeply ingrained into them that the Politicians are in charge, to the point that Politicians can determine how they are to undertake operations.  They are presently adopting a new rifle at a massive expense because the Politicians decided that they could not conduct all arms operations where mortars and HMGs are used to counter insurgents who outrange their own rifles.   Seems remarkably silly to me.  If they are MAGA fools they are their superiors and they won't risk mutiny to get rid of them.   Tsk, tsk, tsk...  ::) ::)
