Title: Planet Earth III
Post by Sprintcyclist on Jan 9th, 2024 at 8:55pm

We've just seen some of Planet Earth III. Amazing and scary.
Richard Attenborough said that since they did the first Planet Earth (20 years ago) the animal numbers haver decreased by 30%.
There are 8,000,000 different species on the Earth, 1,000,000 are threatened with extinction.
In the Amazon, 16,000,000,000 trees have been felled.
75% of our agriculture lands is used to raise meat for us to eat, either for the animals or for fodder for them. This is very inefficient usage of our land.
If we move to a more plant based diet, that will help.

Not according to the IUCN Red List. The numbers are about 44,000. Not good but nowhere near one million.

Richard Attenborough? The bloke who said climate change caused the walrus to fall from a cliff. He ignored his own footage, released at a later date showing them being chased by cuddly polar bears. So how much credit to give to Attenborough, when he lies so much?  It is called noble cause corruption. ::)

It is not inefficient, it is very efficient...as long as governments keep their hands off.

No it won't the range lands don't support crop production. There is no shortage of food. There are supply problems, and a lot of that is because warlords control a lot of the supply chain to the end user. ::)

Just because it isn't on a list does not mean it isn't threatened. We do not even have a list of every species that exists.

Er...feeding animals with food,  to get food - is inefficient.

Europe, India, China and SE Asia don't have extensive "range lands".

Correct, but there is mismagement of land and other scarse resources, to feed animals for food.

Warlords in the USA, Argentina and Oz?

Eat the green grass then, I don't care.

And NONE are in Australia. Australia's range lands are largely rock strewn. ::)

So on the one hand there is mismanagement of enough food but on  the other we have"scarse (sic) resources" which do not impact on the level of food. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And still they can't come up with that number.

It is a claim made by Attenborough. The Sixth Mass Extinction Event that is not happening. It was computer derived by guessing numbers of taxa, including those not yet found, and extrapolating known extinctions, and voila we have a Sixth Mass Extinction Event. Totally fraudulent.  ::)

I accept your concession re efficiency; and if you don't know how tasty red kidney beans, borlotti beans, etc are, you're the loser.

The UN is concerned with sustainable food production in the world, not only Oz.

A wonderful display of the crippled RW brain at work;
more efficient food production (by eliminating meat) is one consideration, alongside  the issue of land and water resources which DO impact food production.

The point is sustainable global food production; floods and droughts obviously impact food production in Africa and Oz and elsewhere.

There was no concession there. Nice try tho'.

So you can't link it to Oz. Good to know that sometimes you admit your limitations. ;)

How does one eliminate meat. Any animal has meat. Humans, lions tigers, buffalo, kangaroos. To eliminate meat is to kill al animals. What are the advantages of eliminating meat for human consumption? And don't tell us methane, because it is a gas emitted by all mammals, as well as termites, the largest source in the world. ::)

It was your contention and you can't back it up. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Floods and droughts have always been with us. Next you will be telling us we can control the weather. So is it a hot dry summer like BoM forecast, over east? ;)

The subject is consumption of meat for food...

Sloppy statement, all animals "are" meat, some animals eat meat.

A totally irrelevant paragraph (like you...)

And the world is now faced with feeding  8 billion people.

Careful now.....the next famine is not far away.

So what happens to the animals that provide meat?

And you. ::)

And yet you have shown no data saying that we need the land currently carrying stock to be used for crops. Talk about irrelevant. ::)

They don't get born into meat farms.

Your statement was meaningless, I clarified it for you.

See the UN's calculations re sustainable food production; CO2 emissions are not the only concern.

Wow. Such a non-answer. The question was what happens to them? Are they not born, are they killed but not to provide meat, are they allowed to roam wherever they will? ::)

Low IQ crippled-brain asking th wrong question; the animal farms have to be closed down during the transition to meatfree diet. No more animal breeding, while the present population die off.

Do you want them fed? You know, the grain that doesn't get to the people because there is a severe shortage, according to you. ;)

Perhaps you want grasshoppers as a meat substitute, but they have eyes and mothers too. So not on a vegan diet. ::)
