As December came to a close, Ukraine suffered the biggest Russian air attack since the start of the full-scale invasion. Russia fired 158 drones and missiles – including hypersonic Kinzhals – at targets across Ukraine on Friday, killing at least 18 people and injuring scores more. Zelensky said Russia used “nearly every type of weapon in its arsenal” in the strikes.


The Russian way of war, absorbing hideous losses of men and materiel but throwing yet more into the fight, has blunted the Ukrainian military’s tactical and technological edge, as its top general admitted in a candid essay last month.

The mood in Moscow seems grimly determined: the goals of the “special military operation” will be achieved, and the fighting will continue until they are.

Biden to sign new executive order to ‘strengthen’ sanctions against Russia

As the long frontline becomes ever more calcified, the Kremlin senses greater skepticism among Kyiv’s Western backers that Ukraine can recover the 17% of its territory still occupied by Russian forces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is relishing the much more partisan atmosphere in Washington, where many in the Republican Party are questioning the purpose of sending Ukraine another $61 billion worth of aid as requested by the Biden administration, assessing that it will achieve little on the battlefield.

But the Russians’ vast reserves of manpower and hardware (Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu boasted that he could raise 25 million men if necessary) mean they can continue bludgeoning the smaller Ukrainian military, making incremental gains at enormous cost.

either NATO troops and weapons join the fight in Ukraine
or Ukraine surrenders and NATO will have Russia on their borders.

How many poor Ukrainians has Zelensky
sent to their deaths in an unwinnable war?

He won't tell anyone - it's a State secret - so he says.
Estimates are from 100,000 to half a million or even a lot more.

How much Ukrainian property and infrastructure has been destroyed?
I've heard estimates as high as US$ 1 trillion - and possibly more.

I have read many articles on this war.
Most thought Russian would win in a couple of months how long has it been going on?

Massive equipment losses from Russia their tanks are useless they lost a few planes on Xmas day.

Is that the first time a MANPAD has shot down a missile?  ;)

ukraine is taking far more losses than the russian federation is in order to defend.. uh... can't figure that out yet, but it's definitely worth dying over

Ukraine are defending their land.

Putin and Russia are trying to use the past as a justification for their actions. The old 'fear of nazis' again card.

In truth, Germany went 'supernova' with their Military/Political/Religious sense of identity that it inherited from the Middle-East.

Uncle Sam is insisting that Ukraine fight to the last Ukrainian.

The Ukraine war is causing disunity in the EU and that suits the USA's objective of preventing EU unity.

Putin is insisting that NATO men in Ukraine will cause nuking which will divide Europe into 2 groups: the dead and the living.

The CIA destabilized Ukraine and deposed a previous Ukraine government that was on good terms with Russia.

The USA continued to destabilize Ukraine after the government was deposed.

The current Ukraine government is hostile to Russia.

It is arguable that Russia had no choice because Ukraine had become USA's proxy.

it was the case 12 months ago that eventually ukraine runs out of ukrainians and does a deal.

nothing has changed in the last 12 months except a lot more ukranians are dead.

Ukraine's only hope is that China goes Supernova in all directions against India and Russia (both allies).
Thus forcing Russia to about face and try to keep China taking resource rich 'yellow' Siberia and slice Russia in half.

Russia has not used tactical nuclear weapons yet because Ukraine is not worth being targeted by such weapons.

Ukraine is lashing out and NATO members are shooting from their mouths.

Russia has not yet used its full might and maybe did not want to reveal to NATO its most powerful weapons, apart from the fact that Ukraine is not worthy of being targeted by Russia's most powerful weapons.

It is certain that Russia is holding back weapons it might need to use against NATO countries.

UK, Germany, and France are in dire economic circumstances and if the war came to their cities their economies would collapse.

The UK is already engaged against Yemen and may have to recall its forces from the Red Sea.

There is also the possibility that other US-enemy countries may take the opportunity for a free hit if the current wars widen to world-class status.

Russian missile strike hits near Zelensky motorcade in Odessa

KYIV — A Russian missile strike appeared to target Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, landing near his motorcade in the Black Sea port city of Odessa, where the president was meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Zelensky and members of the Greek delegation were not harmed, despite the missile landing some 500 feet away, Greek officials told the Protothema news outlet. The Ukrainian presidential office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Foreign leaders have made frequent trips to Ukraine throughout the country’s two years of war with Russia, and this isn’t the first time there has been a strike on a city at the same time as one’s visit. But Wednesday’s incident stood out for how close the missile strike was to both Zelensky and Mitsotakis — what some Western leaders condemned as a new low for Moscow, which has committed thousands of atrocities against civilians throughout its invasion.

European Council President Charles Michel wrote on X that the attack was “another sign of Russia’s cowardly tactics in its war of aggression against Ukraine.”

“This is reprehensible and below even the Kremlin’s playbook,” Michel added.

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said on X: “No one is intimidated by this new attempt at terror — certainly not the two leaders on the ground nor the brave people of Ukraine. More than ever, we stand by Ukraine.”

Explosion at rail bridge deep inside Russia shows Ukraine’s reach

Zelensky and Mitsotakis were visiting the Odessa port when, about 10:40 a.m., air raid sirens were heard. The explosion then occurred within minutes.

“We witnessed the strike today,” Zelensky told reporters afterward. “You see who we’re dealing with; they don’t care where to hit. I know there were casualties today; I don’t know all the details yet, but I know there are casualties.”
