I tend not to debate actual faith with people.  It's personal and up to the individual what they choose to believe, or otherwise.

Yes, it's like what many atheists admit to when making a hopeful future prediction or, say, commenting on their good health so far - the compulsion to touch wood to nullify the temptation of demonic forces.

Totally, but he also cleared up the actual definition of atheism, vs the behaviour of some atheists.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is obviously confused—in that,

doesn't know what those terms mean in reality.

I would never use the word 'God' in my everyday
speech for example, whereas deGrasse Tyson is
more than happy to use Christian phraseology.

To my way of thinking, the terms God and gods
have no logical, empirical or material definition.

And if I hear one more zedder say "OMG!" I'll run
naked into the street screaming...  LOL.

If the God of the Holy Bible exists, what does 'the law' of God represent [or, What is its purpose, and what is it intended to achieve, in us] ?

A.
God's righteousness, in us.


In our body [in this flawed state], we will always fall short of God's righteousness.

But Jesus did not.

Jesus promotes and is the embodiment of divine righteousness.

embody = = give a tangible or visible form to (an idea or quality).

If you weren't culturally conditioned to use 'god' as a nonmetaphysical exclamative or metaphor then, of course, you wouldn't use it much, if at all, unless you made a conscious Spock-like effort to extricate it from your lexicon.

deGrasse Tyson uses it in the way his American culture uses it: to denote shock or surprise, to indicate best wishes, &etc.

Atheists from a Muslim culture may use Inshallah to acknowledge a dependence on luck being on their side.

By using religious terms in those ways, the atheist speaker/writer is not betraying covert religiosity.

By that 'logic' you don't use words like love, justice, beauty, wisdom as these (and many others) have no logical, empirical or material definitions either.
