Two months until Christmas, and I reported 35°C top temperature today. I took note of your "bloody cold" comment and checked the Melbourne temperatures. You have not had a temperature above 25°C for a number of days. And you have had single-digit minimum figures during the night for a few nights. It has not been cold here for at least 2 months. I turned off the hot water system a month ago.

Depending on around which part of Melbourne you live. It would vary from suburb to suburb. The observation reading provided by the BOM have said that parts of Melbourne have not seen an above 25°C day for a few days.
It rained before (brief shower, as I was watching a late movie). The temperature dropped from 26 to 20°C in 20 minutes.
