Relationships: Why do women always have the last word?

If women obtain what they want from their husband or boyfriend, it is thanks to their intuition, in addition to their growing role in society. Today, seemingly, women control the couple’s dynamic.

According to Laurence Sola, psychotherapist, women know intuitively when it is the best moment to convince their partner. many men also demand the "last word" which can
all too often lead to female partner abuse—as many

That’s actually a very passive aggressive comment IMO. My husband tried that type of sentence a few times on me. Last time he tried that stunt I was washing the dishes. I stopped, dried my hands with the kitchen hand towel and looked at him (at first quite fiercely then with some degree of compassion because he had no idea about what was coming next). I won’t go into specifics but he did apologise for the remark AND for the fact that the kids heard him say it (the latter hurt me more because I believe it sends the wrong message to the next generation).

Those types of hurtful comments essentially infer that husbands have no say and we women are some sort of horrible dictators. That’s not the case at all. It’s just that we want a Voice in the domestic sphere that’s heard, valued, respected and regarded. That’s all. The point many men fail to realise is this: the moment we women sense that our opinions and ideas are listened to and are part of the discussion/key decision making process for our household THEN we sense the co ownership in terms of power to move forward as a family and as a TEAM.

As regards my particular family...all I want is this : for everyone (irrespective of their age or gender) to be/feel worthy of having and expressing an opinion that can be heard, considered and discussed.

Do you all want to know WHY I want this for every member of my family? Because that allows for open and effective communication and that there is how I as a wife and a mother can detect potential issues. Kids need to know they can tell their mum anything no matter what it is. Husbands too. The last thing I want is this (and this has happened to others I know unfortunately) ... is for my husband or one of my children to commit suicide because whatever was vexing their spirit was something which they felt unable to share/offload. And make no mistake ...depression and suicide esp amongst boys/men is a scourge in our country.

So anyway I was pissed off with my husband for making such a hurtful comment because it came across as though he was deliberately pressing those buttons he knew would upset me the most.

BTW, I do not think it is passive aggressive. It is how you learn to make things work. a happy wife is a happier life. Sometimes I have to determine if it is worthwhile putting in the effort to disagree. If is not important, I agree because I don't really care.

Look to be fair we European girls tend to demand control of the kitchen, bathroom and laundry spaces. These parts of the house are high traffic areas which need a lot of cleaning and sorting out.

Spot on, it depends on how important it is.

If it is really important, we schedule time just for that decision. Some big decisions have taken us hours of discussion, pro/cons ...etc.

BTW, it was decided years ago, I get the wet spot.

So what? My own adult children taught me something about that.
I was very judgemental of drug use, either prescription by doctors that like to over subscribe for kick backs, or non prescribed drugs of many sorts.
It was during a rant I did much like you did there Lisa, that I was stopped mid way to be told that there are many that do drugs, or have done drugs, so many in fact that it’s best to never say anything of it.
Even The Beatles did drugs to help with creativity in music.
Many famous entertainers do. My own kids did try it when younger, but chose not to stay with it and as adults that’s their choice and thank goodness.
You may not know who is friends with your kids that know plenty of friends taking drugs and/or like a few alcohol drinks.
It’s a lot more common now than in my youth.
If you are too judgemental they won’t fess up to that with you.
Obviously from what I’m reading, someone trusted telling you that and as criticism is shown … don’t be surprised if there are others on this forum (x gen and millennials as well as sone boomers of the hippy/lsd days) that feel judged every time you critique any drug users either past or maybe still presence.
I’m ever greatful my kids taught me understanding about that.

I won’t tolerate personal abuse on the travel forum and only recently I had to decide to do just that and delete unexpected horrible comments in the “Tasmania” topic. There was nothing in there to warrant such unprovoked behaviour. To say I was shocked is an understatement… I’m very protective of my little sleepy corner   :)

In my home, all decisions are reached through open discussion. We both unwrap and dissect the pros and cons of every argument. If, in the rare case, we disagree, the decision rests with whoever it impacts more upon. Neither of us feel as though we need the last word ... neither of us has any control over the other. We do not play games to appease each other. We do not assert dominance over wet areas. I had to read this again for a laugh. It's like two robots living together. Human beings are emotional creatures, women even more so. They aren't going to calmly and rationally dissect every 'argument'. That’s because it’s clearly totally and utterly untrue. The fact that Methra can’t see it is pretty alarming. Then again...given Methra’s long term drug use (an admission which was repeatedly made by the Methra ID even way back on Yahoo)....this unhinged cringeworthy insanity IT posts these days .... is to be expected. So what? My own adult children taught me something about that. I was very judgemental of drug use, either prescription by doctors that like to over subscribe for kick backs, or non prescribed drugs of many sorts. It was during a rant I did much like you did there Lisa, that I was stopped mid way to be told that there are many that do drugs, or have done drugs, so many in fact that it’s best to never say anything of it. Even The Beatles did drugs to help with creativity in music. Many famous entertainers do. My own kids did try it when younger, but chose not to stay with it and as adults that’s their choice and thank goodness. You may not know who is friends with your kids that know plenty of friends taking drugs and/or like a few alcohol drinks. It’s a lot more common now than in my youth. If you are too judgemental they won’t fess up to that with you. Obviously from what I’m reading, someone trusted telling you that and as criticism is shown … don’t be surprised if there are others on this forum (x gen and millennials as well as sone boomers of the hippy/lsd days) that feel judged every time you critique any drug users either past or maybe still presence. I’m ever greatful my kids taught me understanding about that.

Saturday night gone, I was finishing up my restaurant shift at about 9:30 that night. Having just come back from leave after a month, I noticed that one of my co-workers, a 15 y.o. girl, had changed her look. She had changed her hair colour from the Nordic blonde look, to one that resembled her normal hair colour. She had also tied her hair up, in keeping with workplace health and safety regulations. I also noticed that she had started wearing her glasses again. She did come to work beforehand without them. And I saw that she would squint while reading customer orders. I had to admit that she looked rather stunning.

I said to her "I like the hair change. You look very professional".
She thanked me for the compliment and gave me a beaming smile.

My issue is if I had crossed some kind of moral line. Myself being 45 years old, should I have just not commented at all? Or have I done the right thing in encouraging her with her more mature change of appearance. I know that I have not broken any law. But, the reflection of what I said is just making me feel a little uncomfortable.

OXFORD — Eminent behavioral scientists at the University of Oxford have recently unveiled a new feminist theory of human emotions. Specifically, the theory holds that feminists are always angry because they don't have a man to tell them to calm down when they get angry.

The theory, which was first published in an article in the journal "Behavioral and Brain Sciences" a few months ago, has gained significant traction among researchers who were formerly befuddled as to why feminists are so irate and hysterical all the time.

"This really clears things up," stated Dr. Henry Richardson, a noted feminist researcher and one of the paper's primary authors. "For years, we were mystified by how angry these gals managed to get. We ran laboratory experiments, double-blind trials, we put them on placebos at different times in the month…nothing worked. And then, late at night, I was in the office puzzling over it, and I realized — maybe they just don't have a man around to tell them to calm down!"

"It was my eureka moment," Richardson continued. "I can retire happy now."

Behavioral therapists have already begun to implement the theory's insights by prescribing one ordinary man who can say the magic words "Why don't you just calm down, honey? You need to calm down" to any rage-filled feminists they encounter. The treatment's success rate is unconfirmed as yet, but initial reports place it as high as 4%.

To a 15 y.o. girl, you can pay them a compliment. It would be inappropriate, though, to say "Whoo-hoo! Sexy!". I would probably get fired.

I like to give women the last word. I sat with a former housemate who was having trouble with her boyfriend. I asked her if she wanted to talk and to hear her side of the story. Before then, it was difficult to hear her, as she did not want to have anything to do with me.

I listened to her. She said what she wanted to say. I gave her advice. She appreciated that. I went to bed. Talked again the next night. She was more forthcoming. I gave her words of encouragement. She felt better. She genuinely hung up on her boyfriend, when he phoned to apologise.

I have to admit, if I had remembered to lock my bedroom door that night, I would not have woken up with her trying to bend me with her slippery banana peels.

Husband Pretends He Can’t Understand Wife After Tower Of Babel Incident

SHINAR — Following the confusion of languages at the Tower of Babel, local merchant Ur-Nammu was witnessed pretending not to understand his wife in an attempt to get out of housework.

"¿Que?" Ur-Nammu reportedly said whenever his wife asked him to do anything, pretending he was fluent in a new language known as Español. "¿Wash... dish-es? ¿Que? No comprendo."

Ur-Nammu's bride, Yanna, was beside herself with frustration. Following the incident at the tower, her father and mother both spoke different languages and now her husband allegedly could not understand her. Yet he only said one word over and over; a word which sounded a lot like "okay." Only after confronting him about all the work he hadn't been doing did she learn he couldn't understand her.

"Everything has been so crazy since that weird stuff at the tower," she said. "He was always helpful with chores and willing to do home improvement projects around the house, but now, every time I ask him to do something for me, it's like he has no idea what I'm saying."

Ur-Nammu's treachery was only discovered after he stubbed his toe and cursed loudly in their native tongue.

"Ok, you got me," he said. "I was really just tired of taking out the trash. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted."

At publishing time, Ur-Nammu was last seen trying to convince God that his wife was trying to build another tower to reach heaven in hopes that He would smite her with a plague.
