What's the most gruesome, disturbing thing you've ever witnessed? Not videos you watched, but something you experienced?

I was in rush hour traffic one evening and came up on the aftermath of something getting run over by several vehicles. Blood and gore were smeared all over the freeway for nearly 100 feet.

Later I saw the story on the news; it, unfortunately, was a someONE, not something.

I once was able to witness an autopsy and saw the top of someone's head pulled off and the brain taken out and sliced up like a loaf of bread. I also saw the brain and other cut-up organs put into the abdominal cavity, which was then sewn back up. But that really wasn't the worst thing - first, it was the terrible smell and second, it was seeing dozens of untagged naked corpses stacked on top of each other waiting their turn!
