Title: Getting all the tv channels.... and more Post by UnSubRocky on Jul 28th, 2023 at 2:36pm
This is more of a thank you post to whoever it was that recommended getting a new tv that could receive all the channels available free-to-air.
Yesterday, I bought a 40 inch tv (for under $400) at a local retailer. Linking up to the antenna, it was a matter of minutes before I was watching every channel available. Then I found out that the tv has a wifi link up. So, I could stream tv shows and movies from my computer, as well as having the youtube account I have link up to the tv. The amount of media I have available is overwhelming. |

I'm surprised anyone watches free-to-air TV any more.

I have to agree. I only put free-to-air TV on when I'm in the kitchen cooking (as background noise), or deciding what to stream next. I haven't actually sat down to actively watch free-to-air TV for years now. 95% of the time I watch YouTube. The other 5% is spent on Netflix, Stan, and Prime. I'm happy that Rocky got his TV and is all sorted though. |

Free to air has far to much advertising and bias

Indeed. It's the advertising that turns me off - I have a particularly strong dislike for advertising and people who work in the industry. Anyway, it's good to see you here Steven. Your movies are absolute sh!t, but you do have an excellent guitar collection. Are you open to offers on your 1957 Strat? |

Oh, Under Siege was pretty good. Didn't care too much for Under Siege 2: Dark Territory though. Welcome Steven. 8-) (I haven't watched any free to air TV for nearly 6 weeks now since my aunt had her accident). |

I am actually surprised people don't use the time-honoured tradition of watching television, and would rather internet surf and do the pay TV thing.
Hooking up the television, I switched on and set the channels in place. Not only had I found another 10 channels to watch (which I had not access to for the last few years), but I was able to link up the wifi to the tv and be able to watch 10play, 9now, etc. I am also able to watch my youtube video playlists on the big screen television, in the comfort of my lounge chair. There are a few channels that are for movies. If only I could go to the free streaming websites. |

It's the ads Rocky. I can't stand them any more. Just pay the extra 10c per TV show and get that 15 minutes of your life back. Plus, the show will be more enjoyable.

As FD says, it's the ads. I try to watch free-to-air every now and then, but can never get past the first ad break. |

Also, the convenience of being able to watch a show whenever you feel like it.

Free to air commercial TV these days is pretty much almost non stop ads interrupted occasionally by a bit of program.

What the heck is wrong with people in regards to watching commercials. They give your mind a break from watching your shows. What is it, like, one or two minutes of commercials in between ten to fifteen minutes worth of watching the program? Don't you remember the days of using the ad breaks to rush off for a quick toilet break or to go get a drink before you rush back to watch your show? This "I want it now" attitudes people are developing is really taking away the social enjoyment of life. |

They're trying to sell me crap I don't want (or need), and they treat me like a 12 year old in the process. I don't like that. |

If you value for time at 50c and hour, go ahead and watch them. Most people have better things to do. Quote:
If you want a break, turn the TV off. |

Thank you for that, greggerypeccary. It will dawn upon me the way I could use the youtube channel to watch a heap of movies for free on television. I have actually a lot of university lectures on my channel that I wanted to watch. But I did not feel like sitting in my chair watching them. They will be good to watch whilst I sit in a comfortable lounge chair. And then there are all these documentaries that I could finally start watching, rather than half-listen to whilst I computer game.

Now, I have to figure out why 9now.com.au constantly comes up with a lack of memory and then shuts down.

Advertisers are the ones paying to air the programs you watch. You can always stay with the customer payed services if you prefer. Many streaming services will charge almost double if you don't want your TV time interrupted by advertisers. Someone has to pay to make it available. |
