God’s Children, Are Not for Sale: Why the Left Hates Sound of Freedom

I recently went to see the movie Sound of Freedom. It was the first time I had gone to a movie theater since before Covid and it was well worth the wait for such a superb and important film. I was curious about a number of things including whether, in the midst of a heatwave (and rumors that AMC Theaters were sabotaging the air-conditioning in theaters showing the film), the theater would be air-conditioned and why the left has been so distraught over a movie about child sex trafficking – a seemingly nonpartisan issue about which all people of good conscience should be concerned.

I am happy to report that the theater, in West Nyack, NY, was air-conditioned and comfortable. I’m also happy to report that other than the first two rows, every seat was occupied. In fact, when I went to purchase the ticket, the 6:30pm and 7:30pm showings were completely sold out other than the first two rows, so I attended a 9:15pm showing.

And leftists won't be pleased to hear that the composition of the audience was “representative” of the country’s demographics, i.e., it was quite diverse. In fact, the vast majority of the audience was Hispanic (my guess with the amount of Spanish I heard is first generation), Black, and much of the audience was likely 30 and under, although there were definitely people a bit older as well (I spotted only one white man who appeared to be older than 50). These are people the left thinks they own.

I did not spot one QAnon-supporting, white supremacist or MAGA-touting Republican. At $16 for a ticket, I found the demographics interesting, although once the movie began and I realized it took place almost entirely in Central America with all of the children being trafficked from those countries, it made sense. And despite the diversity of the audience, people laughed in unison at the one or two appropriate places (it was not a fun or funny movie) and clapped appropriately including when a pedophile was arrested and at the end of the movie.

As to why the left has done everything in its power to sabotage the movie, including Disney Studios reportedly shelving it for five years, there is absolutely nothing whatsoever political in Sound of Freedom, a mostly (the film-makers did take some artistic license) true story of child sex-trafficking. I watched the film looking for scenes, statements, or anything else that could have been deemed offensive to someone on the left and couldn’t find one. In fact, there was nothing at all patriotic about the film including not one American flag -- which we know offends the left -- nor was there any criticism of Democrats’ or the Biden administration’s immigration failures.

This has led me to conclude three things about why the left hates the movie. The first point is obvious: one of Biden’s first moves upon entering office was to open our southern border, which has resulted in far greater numbers of children who are being trafficked for sex and slavery. Several months ago, whistleblowers appeared before Congress to testify about Biden acting as a “middleman” in a multi-billion-dollar child trafficking operation. And Tim Ballard, the DHS agent whom the story was about and who started Operation Underground Railroad in order to save children from this terrible atrocity, and Jim Caviezel, the actor who portrayed Ballard, have spoken extensively  on the topic.

While Biden, Secretary Mayorkas, and the complicit mainstream media have been lying to Americans about our border remaining secure, the numbers, videos, and individual stories tell the truth. And that’s the problem; Sound of Freedom tells a story that the left doesn’t want you, average American citizen, to hear.

The problem with sabotaging such an important story is that there are young lives at stake, and they need our help. Child trafficking is a huge industry and people of good moral conscience need to act in order to save them. At the end of the film the following statements appear just before the credits:

Human trafficking is a 150 billion dollar-a-year business. The United States is one of the top destinations for human trafficking and is among the largest consumers of child sex.

There are more humans trapped in slavery today than any other time in history – including when slavery was legal.

Millions of these slaves are children.

You have me interested in watching this movie.

In the face of two new releases already stamped as mega-hits, Sound Freedom not only remained in the weekend’s top five, it grossed another $20 million and nearly tied with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’s second weekend.

The glamorous and girly Barbie (at least that’s how it was sold—more on this below) topped the box office with a stunning $161 million opening weekend. Behind it sits Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, a three-hour, densely-plotted, R-rated historical drama that opened to an incredible $77 million.

Will Nolan finally win his overdue Oscar? Will one of the only filmmakers who respects the intelligence of his audience with smart and original properties finally get the recognition he deserves?

Other than Tenet, which I flat-out hated, Nolan has never delivered anything less than a good-to-great movie. With Oppenheimer, he’s threaded the needle again: a critical and box office hit. The only thing standing in Nolan’s way with the Academy is that he’s the thing Hollywood hates most: a wildly successful and talented straight, white male.

Dead Reckoning held pretty well for a blockbuster in its second weekend, dropping just 54 percent with a $25 million haul. That will bring part seven of this 27-year-old franchise to a domestic total of $124 million. Not great. This is no Top Gun: Maverick. It’s the overseas box office that will make or break this one.

However, this weekend’s big box office story is still Sound of Freedom. In its third weekend, the Angel Studios’ phenomenon dropped just 26 percent on 3,285 screens, bringing in another $20 million. By Monday, this $15 million-budgeted independent film THAT DISNEY DUMPED will have earned an astonishing $124 million.

In sixth place sits Indiana Jones and the Dial of Kathleen Kennedy Needs To Be Fired. A fourth-weekend haul of just $7 million brings its domestic total to a humiliating $159 million. Indiana Jones and the Dial of No One Wants to See Indiana Jones Emasculated By Fleabag is also doornail dead overseas. The Disney Grooming Institute is looking at a loss of a quarter of a billion —with a “B”—dollars (you can check my math here). Only a talentless prig enslaved by her sexual fetishes and identity politics like Kennedy could turn one of the most beloved film franchises of all time into a box office bomb.

From what I’m hearing, Barbie is all kinds of woke. So how is something so stridently anti-man and gay making so much money?

Is Get Woke, Go Broke dead?

First off, Barbie wasn’t sold as woke. It was sold as glamorous escapism, a fish-out-water comedy filled with bright colors and beautiful people. Also, Barbie is its own thing—an original movie. Therefore, unlike all of those smug sequels and remakes that criticize the originals, destroy the heroes we love, and then flop at a rate of around 100 percent, Barbie carries none of that baggage.

Hey, it could be that Barbie has found a way to sell man-hating woketardery to the masses. Or it could be that—thanks to a savvy marketing campaign that sold glamour and color—this is the exception that proves the rule. I stand with the latter. The good news is that Barbie will encourage a slew of filmmakers to double down on woke, which means we get to watch a lot more movies flop.

One of my early church experiences:

I was going to first communion lessons at the catholic church / school. Some of the kids were kicking a soccer abll around and it went onto one of the church's lower roofs. They all stood around looking at it depressed. I said I'll get it down. they screamed no - but I climbed up the drain pipe ang got the ball, it was only 10 or 12 foot.

The priest came over and lifted me off the ground by the ear and held me aloft for a long time - gee it hurt - I thought that my ear was going to rip off. I didn't think that I had done anything wrong.

That church had a group of nuns who wore the burka letterbox style habit. It was odd even then. They had some normal nuns as well. I remember one nun who I thought was about 135 years old or more. There were 4 younger nuns whose job it seemed to be to go and pick up and relocate the old nun to a different location every 30 minutes or so.

The other catholic church had a young priest who told fat Albert stories in mass. He rode a Kawasaki 900. Played against him in a student teachers game and he hit me with a great right uppercut in a scrum. He was a good guy.

At a time of year for movies that is normally dominated by big-budget blockbusters, this has been the summer of Sound of Freedom. The crowd-funded, low-budget film about child trafficking has greatly overachieved at the box office, bringing in more than ten times its $14.5 million production cost and even beating out Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in its first week.

While the establishment media has been reluctant to acknowledge Sound of Freedom’s success as well as the prevalence of child trafficking, it has also stubbornly refused to acknowledge the elephant in the room: the immigration policies championed by the anti-borders left and implemented by the Biden administration have greatly enabled the sinister trade depicted in Sound of Freedom that profits off the buying and selling of children.

The treachery is compounded by the fact that these policies are sold to the American public as “compassion” and acting on the behalf of children. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

There are numerous examples of how the actions of this White House have made it the human trafficking cartels’ de facto business partner. A leaked memo from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed that, as of May 31, the federal government ended familial DNA testing at the southern border. Such testing had been an integral tool in stopping the cartel practice of “renting” young children to clients who pose as the child’s parent to gain passage into the United States.

For an administration that claims to care about migrant children and to have operational control of the border, this may be the most illogical policy imaginable. Yet Team Biden enacted the policy anyway, with little scrutiny from our corporate media that it supposed to be a check on the government but increasingly acts as its propaganda arm.

Catch-and-release is another policy that is no doubt popular with the cartel kingpins who are stockpiling cash faster than Tony Montana ever did. Releasing illegal aliens into the United States on the honor system that they will show up for a hearing months or years in the future creates exactly the kind of shadows the child trafficking racket needs to flourish in the U.S.

The more migrants flood the U.S. immigration system, the higher the probability that trafficked children can get through undetected. If the flow of illegal aliens under Donald Trump was a garden hose, Joe Biden turned it into a tsunami. Government data shows that, since Trump’s last year in 2020, CBP encounters with foreign nationals in the country illegally increased more than 400 percent by 2022. How many children are living in quasi-slavery in the U.S. today thanks to such recklessness?

The situation has gotten so bad that even Biden’s top Homeland Security (DHS) officials are admitting that their policies are making the problem worse. Blas Nunez-Neto, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ deputy for border and immigration policy, recently lamented how catch-and-release is enriching the human smuggling cartels. Part of the lure to migrants, Nunez-Neto said, is that illegal aliens in the immigration court system are eligible for Employment Authorization. Again, policies sold to the public as humanitarian acts are serving to empower cartels and ensure even more human trafficking.

The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) sounds good, but in many cases has turned into a conduit for trafficking children. Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) who are not Mexican are ultimately turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which has a track record of losing contact with migrant children released from its custody and releasing them to sponsors under investigation for human trafficking.

An uninformed observer could be forgiven for thinking the cartels and the U.S. federal government are partners in the child trafficking operation, with the cartels handling transportation of children to the American border, and the feds then taking custody and distributing the children to clients in the U.S. interior.

In light of this status quo, it is particularly galling to hear Mayorkas preposterously claim that he is “taking it to the cartels.” On the contrary, it’s hard to imagine how the cartels could be so successful without him.

“If you’re making pedophiles happy and making them salivate over your policies, I think it’s time to push pause and reconsider your policies,” Tim Ballard, the real-life hero in Sound of Freedom, said in a recent interview.

Our nation should have pushed the pause button on anti-borders policies a long time ago. If we cannot take such common sense action to combat a practice as evil as child trafficking, then we lack the moral authority to lecture the rest of the world on anything else.

Of course I condemn the individual pedophiles. Without them there would be no market for this abomination. Democrats have become such loathsome people attacking the exposing of this evil.
